Greg's one of one Maserati Merak, specially ordered from the factory with a grill from a Bora by his father Raymond, is currently in restoration and is about to go in for paint to bring it back to how it left the factory. Here's a photo showing it in red, previous to the restoration beginning. Next time it's all reassembled it will be back to blue with blue Connolly leather.

Interesting, I wonder how many Meraks got this treatment...
    Tanneron is near Cannes.

Those were desperate times for supercar gas guzzling cars so I guess you could probably get whatever you wanted. Not exactly Kosher IMHO though the USA Boras had Merak like bumpers until ... 76
So perhaps it's fair after all? ;)

There are indeed original photos and supporting paperwork. The factory has also recently reconfirmed it was the only Merak built with a Bora grille. The car was delivered to Tanneron, France, as shown on the paperwork, and was then imported to the US with a one time exemption to avoid the federalization process. So no issues of legality to contend with.

Slight addendum/correction, the car was delivered in silver, not the blue I previously mentioned in the original post, apologies.

    Most certainly not!
Likewise the black stripe on the side in the photo with the lady is not mentioned on the factory documents so that was done later.
The Bora front bumpers are confirmed on the green document: paraurti anteriori Bora.

The wheels were added soon after arriving in France the black stripe is standard very common that’s the way the car arrived from the factory with the of the Dayton wheels

seems like some confusion with the technical data sheet from the factory about Leather we clearly ordered the car from New with Leather my father didn’t like the cloth upholstery

Velluto (velours in French corduroy in English) is mentioned on one document but then pelle, leather is mentioned elsewhere on these docs.
The stripe was seen on some Meraks but it was all very spur of the moment.

Question for those who might know: at what point is very nice original paint but with some webbing at the corners or the like supposed to be stripped and repainted? I have seen some very nice original cars that imo should have been kept original, stripped and painted. I suppose it’s all owners preference but I can’t help but feel the preservation of very nice original cars seems to be more and more rare now. It is original exactly one time and that is special to me personally even if there may be a wart or two. I cannot speak for anyone else nor the collecting elite. What say you experts?

Great to see the Merak keeping such splendid company!
Hope the Bugatti Finds an appreciative selection of bidders. It really looks amazing, wish I could be one of them.
    Regards.

The original paint will fail far more quickly if you use the car a lot than a new properly done modern paint job. It's inherently more fragile.

Unfortunately the car had been repainted and red and the upholstery changed to tan I have put the interior back to its original Connolly blue leather and will be painting the car dark blue
