http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=157122 our own tifosiron was involved in a car accident (not of his own fault) on the way back from viewing the french gp today. the thread attached has some details as indicated by martin. in short ron was burned badly enough to warrant a surgical procedure but is said to be recovering now. his boxer was also damaged though i am not sure of the extent. let's all wish ron a speedy recovery. he is such a great member of f-chat as well as a charter member of our flat 12 fraternity. best, peter
I lost a friend to a motorcycle accident last night: Godspeed You, Nate. My hopes and prayers for a speedy recovery, Ron.
Glad to hear he is good, too bad for the BBi, hope for a speedy recovery Looks like the FD was cutting the hood to open it and extinguish all flames in the car
[ This is Gaby typing for Ron...his fingers a little bit toasty ] THANK YOU ALL for your kindness, I am overwhelmed. Returning from Coral Gables Sunday morning, I thought I felt a rear tire going low, so I pulled over on the medium on I-95. Did a quick walk around the car but everything was fine. I got back in the car, got it in gear looking in the mirror .and then I feel I huge impact! Then all I see is 5 and 6 tall flames all around the car. I could not get out of the drivers door. At this point I was not thinking just responding. I climbed over the console, I grabbed the passenger door handle, which it was extremely hot, pushed the door open. All I could see is flames and feel the extreme heat. I decided at this point that I had no choice but to get out. After I got out of the car on my knees, a man picked me from under my arms and dragged me away from the car. I remember looking back and seeing the flames; seemed like everything happened very quickly. A woman stopped, dressed on a doctors uniform to see how I was. I remember her saying that she was a gynecologist (PS she was very attractive so please if you are reading this PM me your phone number). Paramedics arrived in less than 5 minutes. They kept me in the ambulance doing preliminary test. I just remember being in a lot of pain and smelling flesh. As a result I have 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my right ankle and 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my wrist to just below my elbow. I also have first degree burns on my scalp and my face. All I can say is that I am very thankful to even be alive. I know that another 10 seconds and I would have been toast. The boxer is totaled. Apparently a BMW and a Miata aquaplaned; hit each other, and then the BMW ran into me at 60-70 mph. Looks like I will be out of commission for 2 to 3 months. At this point in time I dont feel up for visitors, I am in a lot of pain and need to rest. They started physical therapy today. Once again, I APPRECIATE ALL YOUR COMMENTS AND SUPPORT. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! Ron
Hi Ron - The arms you felt dragging you clear were those of an earth bound angel. I'm so glad to hear you're going to be okay. Of Boxers, there are others; only one Tifosiron! (Okay, so there's one less Boxer now, but what the hey.) Read a couple of books you've been meaning to. Dictate a couple thank you notes. Remember the friends you've got, here and all around. Lots of important stuff that we sometimes overlook in the 'daily' world. A speedy recovery from us all... and perhaps the name of the attractive nearby doctor will surface while you're waiting!
Glad to hear you're going to be okay, Ron! As for the Boxer, don't worry, it will no doubt be showing up on eBay soon ;-)
This kind of puts your own small problems into perspective. It could all end so easily. Thankfully it didnt for Ron. Get well soon m8 Steve
Ron: Glad to hear you are in one piece. I'd say both the carb and injected Boxer community extend their best wishes and hopes for the fastest possible recovery. #43723 : RIP, and we all know how much she meant to Ron.
Ron, GET WELL FAST! Glad to hear you reacted really quick and got out the passenger door. I know you loved your Boxer, but it can certainly be replaced with another. Gary
Ron and 43723 - my deepest condolensces. We all love our cars, but I need to echo that they are replacable. There's another BB waiting for you, Ron, and I am so glad for you that you'll be able to find and enjoy it soon. Forza, David
Thank God you made it through this. Scary stuff - perhaps best you don't remember all the details, honestly. Best wishes for your recovery.
Thanks for giving us the update, Ron. I hope that they are keeping you loaded with good pain meds and that they have good cable TV. I had some skin grafts on my back foolowing an accident when I was 17. They didn't do a good job. Please consult a well-reputed plastic surgeon when and if the time comes. Very important. I have also used a many of the topical scar treatment products as well. They are most effective when used early. After much research and trial, I found that the best is Scar Esthetique. It has most of the herbal ingredients (see the popular Mederma brand) and silicon/dimethicon (newer treatment formulas) as well. It works great on fresh wounds that have just scabbed up. I don't think that it can applied on raw wounds though. Again please consult your physician (or the gynecologist) on this too. Best wishes, bro. Please keep the updates coming. It's great to hear from you.
Sorry to hear the news, Ron. Have a speedy recovery and let us know from time to time how you're doing.
Holy Crap Ron! I just returned from work travels and I see this! I am totally bewildered and absolutely elated to hear that you are doing well considering the circumstances. As was echoed in a previous post, the car can be replaced, but you cannot! I do hope you have a speedy and pain-free recovery! All the best! Cheers, Sam
