One thing that drives me crazy about my F430

As a new owner of a 2006 F430 Spider there is one thing in particular that drives me nuts.

I can't open the fuel door, trunk or glove compartment without turning on the ignition.

The trunk is the worst of it. It would be nice to walk up to the car with my cargo and just pop the trunk with the remote. Instead, I have to pile my junk on the ground, get in the car, turn the key, pop the trunk, get out, load the trunk and go on my way. Seems pretty stupid to me. Am I missing something?

 

oh yes you can, there is a manual ring pull under the dash on the drivers door side

 

Yes you are right , but you still have to put the stuff on the ground , get in the car and pull the ring ...

 

I think they did this for security reasons. I have no idea if that's what they were thinking but if someone left the top down, you don't want people just reaching in and popping the trunk or fuel filler.

Hey... it's a sports car. It's not meant to be perfectly practical.

If it were for security reasons why not just have the stuff deactivate when the car is locked? That would make sense to me.

I am coming from a Porsche and I lived being able to pop the trunk as I walked up and just putting my stuff in. Just seem silly.

Still my favorite car ever!

 

You'd need a California for that.

 

My 430 coupe lets you open the trunk with the switch for it without putting key in ignition. You do need to get into the car to do so of course. The fuel filler door and glovebox need the ignition on though. gotta remember to pop fuel door before shutting car off

 

I don't understand why anyone cars.

Loading the car is for the wife or girlfriend anyway.

 

even if the trunk unlocks with a remote, you'll need to open it with one hand. i agree though that it's a drag compare to a porsche. ferrari continue to careless about convenience because of customer reaction. as ferrari enters into asian market more, things will change i think. asians will flock to the likes of LFA and other upcoming Japanese exotics because of small advantages on human factor.

 

To the Ferrari of the F430 design period, everything after exterior looks and track & street performance was an afterthought. That culture has changed to some degree, as seen in 458 interior. But it's still not where I would like it to be.

+1. I also have a coupe and can open the trunk without the key in the ignition. I guess it is a security measure for the convertibles. I also always forget to open the fuel cap before turning the car off at the pump. Sometimes it annoys me and other times I just tell myself that I should have remembered to do it in the first place.

Original Poster, If thats the "one" thing that drives you crazy, Ferrari did a damn good job making the F430. Things could be much worse.

I agree, it was not designed for convenience. A ferrari is not made for you to constantly load things in your trunk or glove box. The only reason I would open the glove box is if I was pulled over for going to fast in order to take out my insurance card. The gas lid is kind of a pain, but you just have to remember that before getting out.

 

Since the storage area is in front and opens from the front, the lid needs to have a manual secondary safety catch anyway (you don't want to accidentally open the lid while at speed! - keep the switches covered while driving), so while not pointless to have a remote to operate it, it wouldn't be as convenient as your ordinary rear-opening trunk, as you need at least one hand to un-do the safety. I do find myself using the manual release more often than the electric one, though.

 

No need for key on my 07 430, open door, flick switch, trunk popped. Is this not the same on all 430's, tested another 430 and also a scud, both were the same.

 

As said Enzo, when you buy a Ferrari, you buy an engine, the rest is for free and I don't care of such details on my F430 coz I have the other cars for such comfort features.

 

mine is an 09 last of the line and you do need the key--- strange....

 

Mine is a UK car, could it be different legislation?

 

Exterior looks (and function), track and street performance. Exactly what I value.

Otherwise, might as well just get a lambo.

 

All true but this is such a simple thing to get right and they didn't.

 

Exactly how I feel. It's a culture thing within Ferrari--- "We do X, Y, and Z better than anybody else, and that's all that matters in a super car. Because we say so. You don't like it? Go down the road."

Mine opens the front hood from a electric button in the left side of the dash.

 

My Aussie coupe does the same...remote unlock the doors then hit the bonnet (trunk) button and it releases with no need for a key in the ignition....I tried it today to be sure before posting.
