There are many ebay stories but not too many that come from Iowa.
About a year ago I started looking for a car I could tinker with. Looking through ebay I happened across a 308 gt4. Not ever actually seen a ferrari and not knowing such a car as the gt4 existed I did some research. Or what I thought was research.
The particular car I was looking at was located in St Louis so it wasn't that far away. I called the people who were listing, Classic Car Studio and requested some documentation on the vehicle. I didnt get a ppi simply because I figured a 35 year old ferrari will have issues. I located a local mechanic who I thought was qualified and he would be glad to work on stuff I could not.
Having gone to many construction auctions I literally had zero expectations for the car. It could have blown up one week later and I would not have been shocked.
So finally prepared for bidding I lowballed figuring I would never meet the reserve. Of course I ended up getting it. So happily I took my car trailer to St Louis and after paying them asked them if anything was wrong with the car. They told me that the a/c needed charging but that was it.

After The car was home safely tucked away more research was done on fchat. To my suprise my car was the subject of several unflattering threads. Look up s/n 10928 if you want to see them. The general opinion was to run as fast as you can with a few brave souls thinking it might be a good driver.

The good driver was the correct opinion[so far]

I have put 2000 miles on it this summer and have had a blast. I've had a few issues with it but the birdman fuses have helped and most of the repairs I have done myself.

I just can't think of anything I would have done differently. I believe I lucked out.

    conclusions
I had a good experience with classic car studio
The internet makes this purchase possible, parts trutlands etc.
Fchat has been indispensible for advice and knowledge.
    I love my ferrari.

I still have not seen another ferrari and have yet to find anyone in my area who has seen one.

sorry about the long post but it has been a fun year.

    That's a great story.
I am glad to hear stories like this because that's what makes the nice experiences and memories.
Enjoy your car for many years to come.

ps. There is a gentleman here in Calgary who has had his GT4 for over 35 years and the car is immaculate, he still has it and will never sell it.

yes very cool story and very motivating for those still looking.
sometimes one just has to get what one wants and see if it works out
(as it did in your case)....

oops, I will have to round up some pics and have my computer guy post them. They are still on the classic car studio website on around page 25 of their sold inventory if you want to look.

Another little interesting thing was what my family thought of me buying a ferrari. My wife didnt care what I bought, my brother thought I was crazy. He said when that car breaks your not just going to get raped but Royal Princess --s raped. But my 70 year old dad thought it was a great idea and if I wanted it I should get it. Well, dad knows best.
