Online advertising folks in here please

Lets say you were givin a site from a manufacturer to sell their products (they only wholesale). There are also a few other sites selling the same products not to mention similer products from other manufacturers. Ive been looking around a little and I cant seem to find any of them advertising.

Now, i havnt looked terribly long or hard but maybe thats OK, i dont know.

Anyone have experience with this? Do you like things like google ads or yahoo adds? Or more direct dealings with specific sites?

Is it mostly pay per click? what can that run you?
