It was a wax cylinder recorder/player. State of the art circa 1899. Man, you guys are hopeless. Before CD, believe it or not, people listened to music on these big, flat plastic analog discs, onto which were enscribed a literal analog of the music signal. You could see big BASS waves as heavy, thick grooves, and high frequency stuff as very tight, finely inscribed grooves. Well, prior to the advent of the long playing disc, there were other forms of analog recording, which go back to the cylinder (perfected by Edison, but undoubtedly not invented by him- although i think his patents claim it as a talking machine, for things like dictation, i'd have to check), metal discs (like those used in mechanical music boxes), etc.
LMAO...!!! That dude didn't look too happy after he dropped it... "This piece is one of a kind... This the only one in the world..." Crash. "Oh!........... Oh, sh_t..." LOL... That's gotta suck; i honestly feel bad for the dude...
