on thursday I locked in my Speciale build with the following color config:

Grigio Scuro Opaco and Nero Opaco for the roof

at first I was going with just Grigio Scuro for the entire car and a stripe, but I am going to take a chance on the Grigio Scuro Opaco and hope it comes out OK (i also decide to not do a stripe as to not attract extra attention)

I just feel that Opaco will give this car a meaner look and show the lines of the car better. I am also getting matte carbon fiber on interior and exterior pieces and matte wheels, so it would match better if entire car was matte.

I am pretty sure this will be the only Speciale in Grigo Scuro Opaco - hopefully it will look great in person (I only seen the sample of the Opaco)

Scuro is a great color, but I would go with a temp. matte finish with a 3M (or even a cheap plasti-dip) rather than a permanent Opaco finish which can be troublesome and hard to maintain.

maintenance is not an issue... i'll drive the car once or twice a month and i have a really good detailer. i am more worried about how the paint will come out on the car - hard to visualize it by just looking at the paint sample.

I just had the chance to buy an f12 in opico. I talked to the service guy and the best detail shop in town and BOTH said not to get it unless I wasn't planning on driving it. Way to hard to maintain. If anything (sap, bird ****, tar) gets on it. It is crazy hard to get off and doing so often causes the matte finish to look glossy a little bit. Granted the car looked AMAZING but Ill never buy a garage queen. Good luck

Especially difficult to maintain if you intend to track the Speciale. And frankly if I saw a Speciale done that way I would assume the owner doesn't drive it much.

I did a spider in Bianca Italia Opaco. Best decision I could have made, very unique look. Not sure the maintenance is a problem, as long as you (or your detailer) are careful what soap is used. Its not a daily driver, but gets used, Have not encountered anything that has not come off with a sponge. This is my second matte finish, other was more of a daily driver and again nothing that did not come off with a hose and a sponge.

It was a bit of a leap of faith, the paint samples and pictures did not give a very good impression of how it would look. Looks much better in person than any picture or sample I could find.

Ferrari did a perfect paint job on mine, have gone over every inch and could not find a single blemish.

Most of the people who told me not to get matte for maintenance reasons had never taken care of one. Maybe there are some other matte owners on this forum that can speak from first hand experience.

But to sum up, matte paint job far exceeded my expectations!

Hope this helps. Treat us to some pictures and your impressions when you take delivery!

thanks Cirrus... yes, this is definitely not going to be a daily driver or even close to one as it will be car number eleven of my ever-growing collection. i was also thinking i can just buy a 458 Italia in a regular non-matte paint to drive more often and keep Speciale as something i'd drive less often (every other month or something like that...)

Anyone have photos of what Opaco looks like so we can get an idea?

The only way to repair significant damage flawlessly in matte paint is to respray it. Because it is not very reflective, resprays look like original paint. You can't visually detect a paint thickness difference via reflections across multiple body panels.

I previously had a silver factory matte finish on my Mercedes Black Series. I didn't any issues with care and keeping it clean. I had wash all of my cars, so no extra steps were required. I like the color so much, that I specced my 2015 458 Speciale (currently in production) in Alluminio Opaco (silver metallic). I've seen the color on an F12 in person, and it was gorgeous. Can't wait to post pics of my Speciale in this color once it arrives!

Please note: Grigio Silverstone Matt (opaco) has a blue touch in daylight. It doesn't work in combination with Grigio Ferro or Nero Matt (opaco) because of blue touch.

Don't have a F-car in matte paint but have it on our Mercedes G63, which we drive regularly (almost 15,000 mi), and haven't had one issue. Very easy to maintain, just no polish...

    Yup.
I beleive it was first officially introduced on the 16M, with grigio opaco.

I think today you can pretty much order any color with opaco finish. There are few pictures on Fchat of Fuoco, Fuji or even verde Kers with opaco finish.

If your biggest fear is not maintenance (from not using the car much) but the end result, why not play safe and get a regular Scuro, which is already stunning color.
You can always get a temporary matt finish, than will be much cheaper, and protect your paint at the same time.
To give you an idea, here's a friend's Lotus Evora, gloss black from the factory, with a 350$ matt plastidip job. I'm usually pretty picky with paint finish, but the results, for what he paid, where outstanding. 6 monthes later he peeled it off, paint was perfect.
