Open car carrier company

I have a car that needs to be picked up in St. Louis and dropped off in FTL. It's a driver and I don't want to spend the $2K on Exotic or similar closed carriers.

Every time I've used an open carrier it has been a mess. You go through a broker and as soon as they get their profit/deposit they go dark. They have no control over the drivers anyways. At any rate, an open trailer for this car is fine but I want to work directly with the carrier company. Does anybody have someone that owns their own trucks and runs the breadbasket to SoFla route? Tom, last December I used 360 Auto Transport to ship a Miata race car from SoCal to Ft. Lauderdale. They broker transporters, so there is some degree of approximation for pickup and delivery dates, but all-in-all I was pleased with the service, the communication with the driver, and the price ($1100).

"degree of aproximation for pick up". My translation would be "I haven't seen or heard from that mofo for days." Seriously though, thanks for the lead and I'll keep it in my pocket for back up. I just got done with a bad broker experience a couple of weeks ago and want to try to deal direct.

It is amazing to me that any of these guys stay in business with how little they charge. I just shipped a car from Austin to FTL for $550. When it finally showed up it was on a two car trailer pulled by a dually pick-up. On that trip he collected about $1100 and had to spend at least $600 on fuel. They are really scrambling to keep the trucks moving.

 

I just shipped a couple of cars from Denver to Sarasota for $700 ea. It's probably cheaper going to a bigger hub like FTL, at least it would have been if I were going to Orlando (-$40). Independent guy named Robert Tison (828) 361-0350. Honest and knows what he's doing. I'll use him again.
