There is a lot of expertise present here on Fchat and I thought it would be nice to gather everyone who has experience in the automotive business to join forces and knowledge.

Here starts a virtual designprocess where all Fchatters design a new Fchat Ferrari from scratch, including chassis, packaging, many technical components and the body.
It will not be a very detailed process, but more a general overview on how a car is designed and developed to a conceptstage.
It is an open source project where anyone who has something to contribute is very welcome to provide all the input he or she can give.

I need Fchatters who know about engine-development, chassis-development, general packaging, ergonomics, legislation, aerodynamics, 3D-modelling and all other skills and expertise that can be applied to this concept-project.
I'll be doing the styling of the exterior and interior, but offcourse everyone is welcome to show us their own idea's.

I have chosen to do a proposal to Ferrari for a new Dino.
Since Ferrari is not bringing a new Dino, it would be quite safe to start this project on Fchat exclusive.
So, it will be a mid-engined V6 twoseater sportscar as a tribute to the original Dino.

Anyone who wants to join this project can send me a PM.
Please tell me your expertise and what you would like to contribute.

Let's show Ferrari what Fchatters can bring when all our passion is combined!

Best regards, Michiel van den Brink.

Fchat design process!? what fchat design process?

You are going to show ferrari some design and you think they will fall all over themselves thanking you for showing them the light and guiding them to true design purity?

You miss the point. Ferraris are not designed by the customers, fans, or peanut galleries, they are designed by ferrari and pininfarina. That is what makes them special. good design or bad, they are true to the vision of the company and identifiable by the individual who designed them.

You expect the "experts" you have listed to give their time for free for what..? If they are experts in their fields they know how expensive and time consuming a project like this is and will stick to doing it professionally and with a budget...

by the way whos paying for all your design, modeling, aero testing, strength analysis, safety system design etc..

Oh boy you are a dreamer. Maybe you can get Jerry Wiegart to help you, heard he isnt too busy.

Oh come on,.... it's just for fun.
I have no intentions whatsoever, but having some fun with fellow Fchatters and be creative on a subject many people like.
We will just be sharing our visions, interests, passion and capabilities.
Just see it as a game.

    That's all.

Nobody, we're just playing around and keep it virtually and very basic.

Yes I am and I like it. :)

If you don't like it, you just don't have to visit or join this thread.
It's all about sharing the passion.
You do it your way, this is my way.

    Very nice!

    Keep them coming!

In the first ideation stage nothing is wrong.
Nothing will be disputed and discussed in this stage.
I may give some directions though....
Start dreaming and come up with all you can think of!
Later on we will select the best ideas to develope it into a few conceptdesigns.

Let's discuss what a Dino is all about to your own opinion.

    To me a Dino is...

    V6 midengined, ofcourse...

    A Dino is a "she".
    She is very curved.
Very athletic, sportive, but not too muscular.

    Sexy like a centrefold.
She is like the most beautiful girl next door.
    Innocent, but seductive.
She doesn't know she's beautiful by nature.

Friendy and sweet, not agressive or arrogant.
    Stylish, not vulgair.

She doesn't have to wear expensive juwelry.
She doesn't need fancy clothes, just a stylish, tasteful, timeless outfit.

She doesn't scream or shout, but when she talks everyone listens to her beautiful voice.
She sings like a diva, not like a rockstar.

She only gives room to two very special persons with just a little bit of personal luggage.

But... when you're allowed to get closer and get to know her better, you'll discover her mediterranian character....

    That's my Dino!

19 posts and you are being so critical?

This is just for fun, yet who knows, someone on FChat may step up and actually build the car when the design process is done.

V-6 with some form of boost, turbo or supercharger, sort of like an expensive invis-bra from Victoria's Secret.

Should we start by breaking this down into categories. For example, first would be to determine size: wheelbase, track F/R, height, body length.

Would it be a problem to keep it virtually identical to the original? Possibly the height could be a little lower, track a little wider, but wheelbase and over all length could stay the same.

It is very good to determine some specs, but size would be difficult.
I want to start by building the packaging around the driver and passenger.
We should take modern measurements of the modern p95 man in Europe and the US.
Possibly "need4speed" can provide us with a 3D model of our man?

It's OK to keep the Dino as small as possible, but the specs, ergonomics, packaging and so on, will dictate the most of the measurements.

Where will it be positioned compared to the F430?
Shall we choose the Porsche Cayman as a target?

What about a V6 with Turbo AND a compressor?

here's my take on something that could be a new Dino.

Sorry for the crappy pic. I used my kindergarten paintskills to enhance some aspects. I tried to keep the 'testosteron'level in the design as low as possible (I to look upon the Dino as being female), but without making it a girly car.

i would be interested. im studying aerospace engineering, so i suppose it would be logical to lock me in a box an poke me until i come up with some aerodynamic pieces.

i am interested in race car aerodynamics, which would probably be way to fierce (i suppose could be the word) for a dino.
