So a week before the hurricane hit I ordered one of the Ferrarchat.com shirts(Louisiana Region) from Duane. Evacuated a couple of days later.

Anyway, I asked him if he had any way of tracking the package and he responded that it had already been sent out(bummer). Next Duane offers to re-send a new shirt to me at the address I am using in Texas for now. I sent him the info and sure enough a few days later I am greeted with a package.

But why does it weigh so much?

Without saying a word, not even writing a note, Duane included a couple of items in my 'care' package that I was NOT expecting.

First I notice a new baseball cap! Sweet! Then I pull out the rest of the contents and I am greeted with the great Fchat shirt I ordered. It looks great by the way. But as I pull the shirt out of the box, two more items come out as well.
    1. New undershirt
    2. White cotten polo-shirt!!!!

When I left my apt in New Orleans I foolishly only packed one suitcase full of clothes, but Duane was thoughtful enough to throw me a couple of items to keep me looking good while on my extended visit to Texas!

Thanks Duane! You are the man!

Amazingly well! For those who don't know, my father had a heart attack 2 weeks before the hurricane hit and had quadrupple bypass surgery. Actually, this was fortunate because had his health been 100%, he would have stayed in Slidell, LA during the hurricane because he is a physician.

He was up and walking around 3 days after the bypass, and now looks as normal and vivacious as ever! Words can't describe how great it really is.

Although one thing bothers me. The guy is in denial about changing his eating practices. He still thinks it ok to have a roast beef po-boy or anything of the like. He isn't overweight at all, but I know this can't be good for his vascular health. Any ideas on getting the message through to him?

And yes, Duane is the MAN!

Glad to hear your dad is okay! You know, his heart is probably much better now than it ever was before, so he's just probably taking advantage of that for now. Plus some people will never give up the things they love regardless of health consequences...

Isnt it amazing the way doctors live out their own lives compared to the advice they give to their patients.. I got 2 uncles who are docs, they smoke 2-3 packs of ciggies a day and eat like theres no tommorow. Ironic huh?

    It is insane, actually!

My father is a hematologist and oncologist, had a heart attack 12 years ago, but still SMOKED cigarettes up until this recent development! Amazing isn't it?

As for the heart plumbing, I don't really buy into that arguement that your heart is much better off. Because, if you think about it, the veins they harvest to facilitate the bypass are MUCH narrower than the arteries that were blocked, meaning that they can clog my faster than a healthy artery.

Guess I'll just have to knock some sense into him! And yes, at least he has quit the smoking!

Yeah thats true, I guess it depends on the procedure.. It does take years and years of build up to do any damage though. Either way the eating habits have to change; the rate of deterioration is exponentially greater as we age so its not the same as it was when he was 40 or 50 or whatever. He knows all of this.

I think Family is the one thing that could get him to stop eating cholesterol ridden foods.. Someones gotta tell him that their counting on him and need him!

And take him out to excercise with you, take him jogging, swimming etc.. Even if its a once a month date. When the time is right ofcourse. Disciplined excercise can change the entire mindset of a person.
