Inaugaural Northwoods SAAC Open Track Event @ Autobahn Oct 29&30 Hello everyone! If you have not already heard, the Northwoods Region Shelby Club is hosting an Open Track Event at the Autobahn County Club in Joliet this October 29-30. These guys have been hosting open track and other events for many years and have decided to include the Autobahn Country Club www.drivefastbesafe.com as one of the tracks they would like to tour. The Inaugural Northwoods Grand Prix at the Autobahn, as it is being called, is open to Northwoods members and non-members alike. Except for open wheel cars, all makes and models are allowed! You will tour your car for several 20 minute sessions per day. This will get you A LOT of track time. The Autobahn is a twin track layout, so you will be on the North course on Saturday, South on Sunday. The cars and drivers will be grouped according to car performance and driver experience. More than one driver can use the same car in different groups! This is high speed touring, not racing. Your car must pass a safety and tech inspection. Approved helmets, lap + sholder safety belts and roll bars in open cars are mandatory. Everything else is just a ton of fun! If you have never driven an open track event before, there is usually someone in the group that can show you the line to get you comfortable with the track and your car. If you have driven open track events before, you will enjoy this event! The recent open track event that the Northwoods Shelby Club hosted at Road America was a resounding success. Registration and tech info is available on their website at http://www.nwshelbyclub.com/autobahn/2005/ Hope to see you there, Henry V
I'm up for going if my calender stays clear, bad weekend with Halloween and everything. Since I'm a convertible they might not let me on the track. I used to do low speed autocross with it and Corvette club had no problem with that. If anything maybe one day (Sunday) just to watch or maybe catch a shotgun ride in someone elses toy.
FYI the North course is 1.46 miles and has some pretty big curbs. The South course has a couple of problems with rippled asphalt in some braking zones. It's a nice facility, if they iron out a couple of other issues it could be really, REALLY nice.
I was recently at the Speedtrial event on the North track and had a blast, I'll definately be there for the South track event...in the M3 though.

Saturday is the North circuit (1.46 mi) Sunday is the South circuit (2.10 mi) See http://www.autobahncountryclub.net/NorthSouth.pdf for circuit layout. There is no charge to enter and spectate this Northwoods Shelby Club sponsored event! Bring your cars, bring your friends, bring the kids and plan to have a nice time. Regards, Henry V
Does anyone know if they would allow parade laps (i.e. low speed, but still requiring a helmet)? I would like to try the track but don't want to race my car. These parade laps using go on in between races and various cars take passengers for the fun of it.
I am sure that if there is enough interest, pace car controlled laps (e.g. slower speeds and no passing) can be arranged. Please contact Brad or Darwin to find if this request can be accommodated! Regards, Henry V
I was at Autobahn on opening day in my Porsche 996, with my buddy Jim who brought his Viper and Vette, and Travis who brought his Murcielago. Just had new tires and brakes on, and I drove the sh*t out of it on that track. Very fun time. Don't know if I'd drive the TR that hard though, but I did with the Porsche cause I was trading it in later that week! When I traded it to Continental, it ended up back at Luxury Motors where I bought it from. Anyway, the track is great, although food and drink seemed scarce that day. I'm sure they got the concessions worked out by now. I also met the owner at a car show recently, he has a magazine out as well. Nice guy.
