I´m going to replace the wheel nuts on my 355 CH which look already quite worn from years of race use. The old ones are with a closed top/sleeve (picture attached) and the wheel studs seem to have worked their way into the material over the years. I´ve had good experiences with open wheel nuts on other race cars so would want to try these on my CH now, too.

    Are these specifications right?

    M14 x 1.5
    60deg tapered
    27mm length
    22mm head size

I´m sure about M14, 27mm length and 22head size by measuring, not sure about 1.5 and 60deg tapered though. Can anyone of FC-wisdom confirm?

    Thanks!

Challenge cars have nuts and not bolts? FWIW, the bolts are M14 x 1.5

    Thanks Dave, good to know it´s M14 x 1.5.

Jeff, high grade aluminum open end wheel nuts are around 10 Euros each as long as they´re not supplied as OEM by Ferrari... :)

So the final question is: 60deg tapered or not?

Wow - I had not idea (until this thread) that Challenge were different.

I can tell you that for regular wheels we make inserts and yes, for those the seat angle is 60 degrees included

Oh dear, every time I get "simple" ideas it´s ending up in medium sized projects...

I was joking in the beginning but after a quick 20min scan of the www I could not find any supplier for a comparable nut yet. The main difference is the 22mm width of the sleeve. Most manufacturers offer 19mm.

Dave, you should really look into that... lol ....

    Well, here are the issues....

Based on that photo, hex stock cannot be used - the hex must be milled. To do that efficiently, it must be done on a live tool lathe and the setup for low volume is just not all that economical.

If you want to send me one of yours, I'll take a look at it but my guess is you need them now and it would take us a few months probably to bang some out ;)

That´s some helpful input, thanks a lot. I´m gonna talk to my CNC-specialist at the local university and see what he sais. Maybe he can do a small batch of 100-200 nuts as they don´t have to work on a profit-oriented base. Will keep you all updated.

There is a good chance the thread is a formed thread vs cut so you need to look for that. If it was my car, I'd consider titanium before aluminum

    From the above link:

    NEW
    To Order
    Subject to Availability
    £45.02 Each

Chances are they buy them in From Hill engineering when required.

Hill Engineering show them at £18 each (@$23) : 163370 - 163370 Wheel Nut by: Hill Engineering - Hill Engineering

Ricambi sell the same Hill engineering nuts for $35 each: https://www.ricambiamerica.com/163370r-challenge-wheel-nut.html

There are M14x1.5mm wheel nuts with a 60° Taper and 22mm Hex head with a zinc finish at £57.60 for 20 nuts here: https://www.performancealloys.com/nut-details.aspx?ID=865, but the lengths are 25mm and not 27mm (NOTE: I cannot vouch for the company as I have never dealt with them)

Personally speaking, I'd contact Hill engineering and try to get some directly from them if available, as getting custom nuts made to spec could be even more expensive (and possibly even more expensive than buying the Hill engineering nuts through Ricambi!)
