All subjective of course. But I think that we are at a point where people spec out all the carbon fiber options because they’re the most expensive… but to me it always just looks like glossy plastic. I’m talking about center consoles, door panels, steering wheels, etc. To me, the nicest interiors are custom forged aluminum hardware switches, dials, and gauges….. with high quality leather and alcantara with accent stitching. Carbon fiber is great for weight reduction. Not decoration.
I agree. Beautiful leather, brushed aluminium or even wood look better to my eye than carbon fibre. I have some in my FF and it feels like plastic to me.
Remember wood paneling was all the craze in the 70's? I look at carbon fiber the same way. As an accent I can look great. No doubt. But it's getting over done now I think. It's also so over priced now its ridiculous. The stuff has come way down in price to manufacture..but they keep the prices high because they know people still think its as expensive as it used to be to make. That new pressed carbon..the stuff that looks like a kitchen counter-top..thank God has already become a no no..
The biggest joke is people choosing carbon fiber for weight reduction rather than recognizing that it is an alternative material choice with its own look. I continue to think that used sparingly it is a nice accent to other traditional materials. It gives the impression of modernity and high tech while tying the car to its Motorsport roots. Personally I like carbon with a matte finish especially on larger surfaces. If I were ordering a new car I’d spec a little carbon for these reasons and know full well I’d be paying a premium purely for an aesthetic upgrade
That is ‘forged’ carbon fiber which is a total BS marketing joke. Forged carbon is much more easy to manufacture and it is marketed as a premium option when in reality is has no structural or weight advantages over traditional carbon. Notice how forged carbon is used nowhere on an F1 car. Look closely and lots of different weaves of carbon are used depending on the structure required. Forged is heavier and weaker but has been beautifully sold to people who don’t know any better. It is the ‘Corinthian Leather’ of our day
That forged carbon Lambo started using is God awful…. It looks dirty and crappy and cheap. I hate it. The first time I saw it, I was like what the F is that!!?? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
aluminum while nice also has drawbacks. it will reflect off of side windows and mirrors. carbon fiber doesnt do that. not sure how i feel with a mixture of gloss carbon fiber and matt carbon or a mixture of black plastic and carbon.
Carbon fiber is great in accents, but it seems to be getting a little excessive. Sent from my toilet using FerrariChat.com mobile app
To me, it's totally situational whether or not carbon fiber looks good. As discrete accents, it can look quite good in certain circumstances. Larger panels in CF don't look as good to me. The thing about carbon fiber is that it often doesn't age well -- either structurally or (situationally) stylistically. I'm mainly thinking 2000's era Porsches when I make that comment.
I only like structural carbon or large pieces. A Carbon tub, hood, etc is very cool. I do not like it when it becomes jewelry because it adds no structural or weight saving advantage. The only exception to this is the carbon LED steering wheel, which I must have one every car
I agree. Im not a fan of carbon fibers look on interior or exterior. I appreciate the weight savings but thats it. Otherwise looks silly and adolescent to me.
This is a good post because it may help distinguish why some do or dont like it. For example, I think all jewelry is tacky. All of it. And thats also how I see cf. Obviously this is subjective, im not saying you are wrong. Just saying that those of us who dont like cf may not like any type of embellishment.
I’m sure digging it on my engine bay and interior… the exterior, just my S Duct (and soon to be exhaust tips) are cf. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat

Do they even have options for actual machined, brushed aluminum or real chromed metals though? It seems it’s either sprayed plastics or CF. I love Bentley interiors: the metals are real, leathers don’t separate or get shiny as easily, buttons and switches click in a satisfying way. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well you kinda don't have much of a choice. My last purchase was my truck..which I bought souly because I love the interior..couldn't really care much about the outside. As I get older, I realize with nice cars..everybody else gets to see what you are driving from the pretty side..you the owner and operator get the **** end of the stick. You pay for others enjoyment.
Bentley, Aston, Rolls, those interiors are defiantly next level..some of the trim levels are jaw dropping..Makes Ferrari seem almost Chrysler..with a few CF bits thrown in..
