When I bought my 365 it had one exterior mirror on the drivers side only. I've done a little research and can't find anything conclusive as to what mirrors (if any) were originally fitted to these cars as standard.

Personally I feel the car needs mirrors on both sides, both aesthetically and safety-wise it's unlikely that I'd be able to match the one mirror on the car so I had it removed and the holes welded up during the repspray. This way I can choose any mirrors I like and not be restricted by existing fitting holes.

I'd like to know what mirrors other owners have on their 365's or recommendations/suggestions from any 365/400/400i/412 owners as to which style I should fit.

None of the standard electrically operated 400/400i/412 style mirrors are really an option as I'm not going to modify the car to use the electrical bits hence there's no point in trying to locate a set.

If anyone has any photos of mirrors on their cars or know for sure what they should be please let me know.

It's a bastard reversing any car without mirrors through a small garage door plus changing lanes on a motorway can be downright dangerous so I'll definitely fit some to the car.

Just a bit undecided as to what type. I'm kind of drawn to the chrome bullet style old school mirrors because the car's dark blue and chrome against the body looks great.

Looking for a bit of reassurance really........

I have these on my 400 - it should have the square mirrors but for some reason came with these.

I agree that they're really nice but prefer to have something different on this car.

I have one single mirror on my 400 and I really don't like it. It seems 80's when the rest of the car screams early 70's.
For a 365 I'd consider the Durant style chrome mirror often seen on earlier 911's.
You can get them in a few different sizes.

If you have a look at the official 365 GT4 2+2 brochure, you will see that there isn't any mirror on the car
I m convinced that it was delivered without any mirror, and it was equipped when arrived at the dealer shop, regarding the administrative rules of the country
There are too many sort of mirror on 365 GT4 2+2, and most of them were easy to find in specialized cars equipment shop.

Then the 400 are equiped but you can have a single one or two
Seems to depend on the year of the car and the country of destination

I pretty much thought that none were factory fitted - I'm really looking for opinions as to what type/colour/style I should fit.

Ask yourself the question "If I had to decide myself, which would I choose ?"

I know what I prefer but am interested to get other owner's opinions.

If it were me, I would fit round chrome ones. I believe they are easy to source and fairly cheap. They are period correct for RHD 365 GT4's - see the cover of Autocar 4 October 1975 (light blue GT4 registration KPD 634P). Interestingly the 365 tested inside the magazine had different mirrors - rectangular style which I don't like as much.

The RHD GT4 tested by Car Magazine (against an Espada) in May 1974 had no exterior mirrors.

These cars have excellent visibility but agree it's sensible to fit two exterior mirrors.

    For what is worth:
    The 365 was sold with no mirror {at least the brochure car had none}
I've asked the specialist of ASIA (Italian certification body), they recommend round chrome 'pininfarina' but I'm not 100% sure of what it means...
On my car, I've something similar to Russell's... black, probably installed in the 80's when it became required by law
Sorry, not of great help !

The Dino mirrors on this page http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partsListing2.asp?G=76&SO=1&SB=3&M=&Mo=&O=10 are very similar to the ones fitted by Ferrari UK to the Dino and Daytona. They did come with an embossed prancing horse on them but these are no longer available. They were called Radbourn style by Ferrari UK and i had the last embossed one years ago.

They are quite small though and don't give you great rear vision, but better than nothing.
Eurospares were the cheapest i could find, Superformance also them but for £75 each.

And I have exactly the same thing as Russell's - pretty sure it's Vitaloni so likely fitted in Italy before delivery to the UK. Just saying...

The Storm appears to be a replica of the ones I mentioned except that the base is smaller (& they're not electric).

Agreed - that's why I posted the link. I'm just not sure if a slightly more "old school" look would be a better way to go.

They're only mirrors but before the holes are drilled I want to be sure where I'm going.

The mirror on my car is like the top picture. If I could find a matching one for the right side I would get it.

They, if fitted at factory, or possibly at the dealer, would look like the ones on the Boxer of '73. They can be seen on the 312 of '74 as we'll.

This is one of the little attractions to the car in a small but neat way IMO. You get F1 Ferrari mirror(s) like Niki Lauda had on his car.

The very close, maybe exact is the Vitaloni California. They are widely available and not very big. I have seen several cars with chrome mirrors that appear to be earlier in style than the California's as well. And they appear correct on the car.

If I have one thing that I do not really feel is correct for these cars, it is the Vitaloni Turbo mirrors. These are not period correct I think. But appeared first on later cars than the 365s.

I want those on my Boxer project. They are on my 365 I believe. I just saw it recently too, yet don't specifically remember this time. But I remember being pleased about this point in the past.

Hi Russ, I have two new mirror that I do not use.
1 - Vitaloni 111 which would be fine on our cars but has an acronym Alfa romeo. And a lack of crome on the base (see photo).
2 - Astro Cromadora that equipped GT4 Ferrari in its Chrome release.
Both with their attachment system (rubber, screws)
    I have two of each
If anyone else is interested I have 4 more Cromadora Astro

Thanks for this Theo, I prefer the design of the chrome mirror but wouldn't want the Alfa wording.

    The offer is much appreciated.

Russ, I have vitaloni's on my 365. There were there when I got the car. So, in an effort to try and be somewhat impartial, I can see why some might view the chrome units discussed as appealing. These particular vitaloni's, however, due to their angular (non-round) design and color integrate well with the shape of the car and the other black elements, such as the bumper, IMHO. I've never felt as though they look out of place.
