No not at all. I just don't like the way the CGT looks. That and it isn't always about pure performace, sometime you way comfort. In the SLR you can crush continents in a nice quiet cabin. Think of it this way. The CGT would more more like a fighter jet, were as the SLR would be more like the Concord.
CGT of course, it's a pure bred supercar. As much as i love the SLR (love the styling, the engine noise, and the fact how insanely fast it is for a 5speed auto), i just can't justify spending that kind of money on it, SLR is a car compromised, if Gordon Murray wasn't given so much restrain from MB to make it comfortable like a normal MB, i'm sure it would have been a great supercar, but as it is, it's just a extremely fast MB. Worst of all, the new 599GTB, prob costing less than 2/3 will be just as fast and most likely handle much better, not to mention that the SL65 isn't much slower either. Having said that though, looks like many rich people likes the idea of a comfortable auto supercar, as 1000th SLR has already rolled off the production line.
CGT easy you can get close to an SLR with an SL65 and save yourself $300k. not only that you will have a hardtop convertible on top of that. with 604hp and 740ft-lbs of torque you are a sneeze behind the SLR. there is no close competition with a Carerra GT in the porsche line up. great looking, carbon-fibre bodied, race car. targa top and you wont see another one around. SLR looks like a benz, obviously it is, but the CGT breaks the mold of a porsche. having driven the CGT, i can say its an experience
I guess I'm going to go against the trend and pick the SLR. Both cars are plenty fast. I accept that I do not have the skills of a race car driver, so I would probably end up dead in a CGT if I pushed it on a regular basis. It's apparently hard to drive at the limit, has no stability control, and probably doesn't work very well on real roads (with cracks, potholes, etc.). I just imagine the SLR being closer to what I like. I love the solid feeling that Benz tends to strive for. The SLR also looks better to me. I'm splitting hairs, though. Both cars would be amazing to own. I don't understand the people saying to buy an SL65. Other than a vague visual similarity and comparable power (but not weight), they're completely unrelated cars.
That explains it! I have wanted to be a fighter pilot since I was 5, and have always hated being a passenger on planes, the rides are so boring
i would have to say i would buy a CGT. for the simple fact that it just seems way more raw. that said... i have heard the costomer service is nothings short of perfect for the SLR since its run through mclaren. -Thomas
Agreed, the F40 is far more exotic and much sexier than a CGT or SLR. F50 might be outside the price range (?) If I had to choose between a CGT and SLR, I'd probably go with the Porsche. But if I were writing the check, I'd be looking at Italian stuff, no question.
CGT The cars just amazing. The engine note is amazing, im more of a manual gearbox man myself, and paris hilton has a slr I mean that just makes the car even less desirable to me.
That Paris Hilton comment made me giggle. I'd take the Porche any day. The SLR is just a transportation module.
I'm quite sure you know which one i choose judgeing from my username...... Carrera GT!!!! In Fayence Yellow!
