I ran accross these 2 on Ebay. Item#130294422295 1982 308GTSI. Looks like a decent car, just wondering when the last belt service was and how many miles ago. Owner claims all he did was change the Battery in the last 3 years. Any opinions and how much something like this would go for in todays depressed market? Item #280323996546 1983 Ferrrari 308 GTSI Euro. Buy it now price of $28,500.00? Wouldn't you think someone should of hit the Buy It Now button already. Anyone have any info on either one of these cars? Thanks.

Although I couldn't buy my car sight un seen or heard, u're right someone should hit the "buy it now" button. 28k for a euro qv with low miles, 16in magnesium wheels, in resale red is at the very least a very good buy.

1983 Ferrrari 308 GTSI Euro - Changed belts but when was the full major (tensioners, water pump, etc.) performed. New odometer this automatically drops value since you can not track the mileage unless he has meticulous maintenance records with miles etc.

On the other car if he claims to have changed the battery in the last three years, that is probably all he did. You can assume not other work has been performed. But call and ask to make sure.

This car has been previously listed, at least twice, before the current one within the last 4 months. No bids before and the price has dropped even again. Perhaps others have inquired in the past and know something? As always when a deal appears to be too good to believe then.....

I would guess that it needs a full major plus incidentals and other defered services, minor interior work, wheel repair which could easily reach in excess of $6-$8k. Documentation and proof of timely services is a key point! Other than than that the car obviously shows well in the photos. If interested definitely do a PPI !!

I rather suspect that the current market conditions are not causing any real reduction in the maintenance costs. I haven't had need to check if Ricambi has lowered their Major Service kit price but rather doubt it. If the shop has not changed their shop rate then don't expect much change there either. If the shop is reasonably busy why lower the underlying shop rate? Check Eugenio's website for various service prices; no matter where you are it will at least give a guideline. Take to heart that if there are additional issues then they are on top of these budgets. If there is troubleshooting to find an elusive issue then realize that is billable shop rate until a resolution.

That is a red flag, and kind of scary. What about oil changes? However it is very similar to what I was told and I did purchase the car because a PPI revealed that it was in very good condition without major issues. With that said I have put another $10,000+ into the car since purchase for Full major service, new shocks, one spring, new tires etc. and I did quite a bit of the work myself replacing little things like fuel lines, coolant hoses, water pump, radiator, steering rack, thermostat, fuse blocks, clutch cable, the list goes on.

Good advice above. But in my opinion, ebay should not be discounted totally for good deals. I have seen 2 great deals disappear before your eyes in the last 2 years on 308's. One recently.

Of course, after the auction is pulled one says "shoulda, woulda, coulda". Dont know about this one.

As with every rule, there are exceptions. I too have seen a couple of legitimate deals on e-bay but few and far between.
