I'm fed up with the OEM brake pads that came on the F355. They squeal all the time and dust terribly. I've read some of the past threads on this forum about brake pads and I'm looking for opinions on the best replacement brake pads for the F355 under the following conditions:

    1. For normal everyday driving
    2. High friction when cold and warm
    3. Low dusting
    4. Low noise
    5. Friendly to rotors
    6. Low fade when hot

Any input on the Axxis Delux Plus or Porterfield R4S brake pads?

    Thanks for your help.

Porterfield pads don't squeak. Original F-pads do squeak. I changed mine with success.

I've heard good things about the porterfields too, I'll be going with them shortly.

    Michael,
I am using the Axxis Delux Plus on a BMW 540 sport and find these pads to work excellent for everyday street driving and even when getting more aggressive. If kept within those bounds (no track use) they would probably be fine. Very little dust (amazingly little actually), and no reduction in stopping ability from the oem pads.

For anything else, and really in keeping with the high performance nature of the 355, the Portefields or Ferodos might be the better choice. Probably what I will put on my 355.

Amen on the Axxis Deluxe Plus in a Bimmer. I have almost zero dust on a 525it and 740i Sport. Fantastic.

In my 348, I've switched to EBC Greenstuff. The first 1000 miles were absolutely fine. Now, the pads squeak like crazy at about 2 mph down to a full stop. It's unbelievably annoying -- but the stopping power at regular speeds (and track conditions) is terrific. They greatly exceed the stopping power of my old Ferodo pads (IMHO). Dust isn't insignificant, but if gotten to quickly, it's easy to clean.

Use www.froogle.com search engine for any price search...but otherwise, I agree, Zeckhausen does offer great service at a competitive price.

Girodisc has Porterfield R4-S pads for $89.00 an axle (F355) with free shipping until the end of the year. We recommend the Pagid 4-2-1 compound as the ultimate street/track pad, but they are spendy($150). Ferodo DS2500 is excellent as well but they do dust more than others($135). Either will have higher temp limit than Porterfield. www.************

    Thanks,

I forgot to mention, I did install Axxis Delux Plus pads on my 1987 328 GTS this past summer. Included were new Goodridge stainless steel brake lines, and a light "cut" off all the rotors to clean up the discs. Brakes seem to have the same braking power as the original oem metallic pads, but with 3/4 less brake dust. Those ss brake lines made a huge difference in firming up the pedal after replacing those soft 17 year old rubber lines.

Again, I am not certain that the Axxis Delux Plus would be appropriate on a 355, but worked great on my BMW 540 and 328 GTS.

Quite pricey and aimed at endurance racing. But very good both cold and on track to extreme use....

Tend to squeak slightly, dust better than std but still evident. Wouldn't use Pagid Blue (4-2) if going near a track, but fine on the road.
