Given all the controversy recently regarding the sunroof option I stumbled upon your this old thread and found your comments about it "being a mess" and "eats into headroom" quite interesting and somewhat ludicrous. Having one with a sunroof, I can guarantee you it does nothing to compromise headroom as it sits flush into the interior roof profile and is quite easy to remove, albeit more easily accomplished with two people. (But that's what wives or girlfriends are for, aren't they? LOL!) Probably only a sales deterrent since it is rumored to have been a $16k option. Would be very appreciative if someone actually has the actual price this option cost.

When these cars were new I test drove one with the sunroof option and was not impressed at all.
The sunroof is just way too small to be of any use.
As well I recalled you actually had to remove the panel (instead of it being powered) which was not too cool considering that even a vw golf had an electric sunroof.

regardless of thoughts on the sunroof option one thing for sure is it is very rare.....and except for the one car I drove years ago I have never seen another one (even listed for sale).

Meh. rare for a reason. I wouldn't pay extra for it. My experience is every sunroof leaks over time and the edge by the seals will bubble from corrosion over time. I'd be fine if a car I was interested in happened to have it. But I wouldn't consider it "ideal". If you want sun and wind get a spider.

It looks like the sunroof cars just got rarer!

There is a front-end wreck on eBay right now -- sunroof panel and roof are for sale in separate auctions.

I still think they are cool. I was almost ready to buy when this beauty popped up on the market. It sold and made a long journey to China. I was in the throws of making room in my garage for an F-Car but had to unload this first. About 4-5 weeks later I was really ready but the car was gone! An anonymous F-Chatter and now friend who knew I was looking for a gated car sent me a PM. He said there was a car that just showed up in the showroom of the F-Dealer here and I might want to check it out. No sunroof! But it was right in my backyard, and a low miles garage queen, three pedal, one owner car. YEAH!

I noticed this at a few places both times I was shopping for cars. I didn't even bother checking their websites any longer because of their optimistic pricing.

I think those used car outfits that are just big enough to offer financing start to puff up the prices. Once you start the negotiations they become all about financing; financing the car, financing the delta between what they are going to give you for your trade-in, financing the delta between your offer and their asking price.

It seems like some of those places don't want to move cars. It's not about the cars, they want to move financing packages. To me that is not the way to build lasting relationships. Relationships is where it's at. The horse traders that understand that, seem to endure. The ones who don't seem to fade away. my .02
