I was wondering what your opinions are for these two cars, both for around 20K USD. Each has around 70K miles and tip top condition. The two cars are mid 2000's Corvette or a mid 2000's Boxster or Boxster S. The car would see minimal track duty (maybe once a year at most), and would be driven for fun mostly on weekends with light commuting and maybe the occasional road trip. Looking forward to hearing opinions, Cheers.

The boxer would handle better and while not as fast as the Corvette be satifying to drive.
The early year Boxsters have an erratic aceleration curve. It bothered me alot. enough that I did not buy one.

The vettes had numb steering untill 2008 model year. If you go to a dealer drive a 2008 and a pre '08 and you will notice the diference. It is dramatic!

Both cars should be reliable but with used cars who knows what you will be faced with. The vette will be less expensive to repair. The Porsches can be very expensive.

If you go Boxster the "S" is more spunky and the way to go. If you are close on finances as we all are when young I would go for the vette. Try for an 08 model if possible.

As a side bar my 2009 ZR1 is a better handling car than my 458. Hard to believe but true. My 360 and F430 Ferraris in their day were better handling than almost anything. this is not the case anymore. Lotus arguably is the best and continues to be so.

good luck to you whatever you buy.

    regards

    Lee

I shopped Boxsters when I bought my corvette. Really fun to toss around but a little cramped for me at 6'1"

Vette, it is possibly the most performance for the money along with the STi and EVO.

Of the two you suggested, I would take the Vette. But, if it was my money, I would get an 03-04 Mustang Cobra and get some suspension upgrades from Maximum Motorsports or Steeda.

I don't think you will find a decent C6 Corvette in your price range, so the comparison will be a C5 vs. the Boxster. Even so, I agree that the Vette is the clear winner in terms of raw performance. However, if fit, finish and build quality are important to you, the Corvette (especially a C5) is more...well..."raw" than the Boxster.

Here's a question to ponder...if they were both sitting in your driveway, which set of keys do you think you would grab more often? That's the one to buy.

I appreciate your comments guys. I have driven a couple c5 corvettes and I liked the way they drive, but I haven't driven a c6 yet; my cousin owns one, maybe I should bother him for a ride. I have never even been in a boxster but I have been in a couple 911's. If the build (read interior equipment) quality of the 996 is the same as the boxster, then I may end up heavily favoring the boxster over the vette. I used to own a 98 Camaro SS, and I noticed the interior between the camaro and vette are pretty similar, and after DD the camaro for a couple years and switching to the BMW, I don't think I could ever go back.

Anyways, I realize the Corvette is the performance winner here (especially in a straight line) but I really don't intend on driving towards the limit very often. I currently on an 86 Mustang that is more of a track car than a street car. So what I am ultimately looking for is something to fall between the BMW and the Mustang (540rwhp @3092lbs w/MM suspension also an 8pt cage).
