Last night I looked at a 77 308 GTB coupe with 18,000 miles. It is have a complete service, all fluids, brakes, tuneup, carbs, etc by a highly trained Ferrari Technician. I have alway liked this particular model and it is one that I can afford to purchase. I would like an opinion as to your thoughts on, a. this particular model, coupe versus syder, carbureted vs FI, model year, and finally value one would place on a car like this. Thank you all. While I have had many vintage cars, most have been English or German, this would be my first purchase of Italian machinery/art and I am a novice here.

You'll probably want to search heavily in the 308 section of the forum, I think many of your questions have already-been heavily commented on in the past and are still available in the archives.

Having said that, I own a GTS and I think I would have preferred a GTB - a better-handling machine with less chassis-flex. The targa top was/is a big selling point with the wind-in-the-hair crowd, but I'm fair-skinned, so I keep the roof on all the time to avoid getting sunburned when I drive. I believe the 77 cars do NOT have all of the restrictive smog equipment, so you're looking at one of the higher-horsepower carb cars. But you're also looking at a car with ZERO rust protection, so I'd put that car on a lift and look underneath pretty heavily.....

Other than that, prepare for an adventure! The few who obtain such a machine seldom part with it willingly....they are well-loved in the circles I drive with.

Thanks, body clean as a whistle, no rust anywhere, all original down to the tires. All the fluids, belts, tune-up are being done presently.
Once done, price will be set.

Steven - Welcome - Might get more responses if you filled out your profile with whatever information you are comfortable sharing. I have a red /tan 1976-77 308GTB. I'd be glad to answer any questions you have(keying pages of information is not my idea of fun . Using the search function is a good idea. Where are you located, i.e. Metro area?

Coincidence - I purchased mine from a private seller in Providence 5 years ago and had IFS do a major service on it. The car is red/tan (what else? ) and took Silver at the FCANE regional concorso in Hartford, so it's a fairly original example. If you want, PM your phone number and I'd be glad answer some questions for you. If IFS (John Tirrell - South Easton, MA) is doing the service on your car you are in good hands (make that the best) and he's the one to answer your questions . I'm 25 miles north of Boston if you ever get up this way. Hope every thing works out for you.

    Steven,

    Welcome to Fchat.

I too live in Providence and second RMDC's comments on IFS, Inc. My car, a '70 365gtc/4, lives @ IFS during the winter when it gets its mechanical fixes. John Tirrell is a wonderful craftsman and fellow. He has PPI'd and worked on two cars for me (I originally had a '66 330 2+2) and they both have performed beautifully. His shop is 35 miles north in an industrial park across from Stonehill College. Easy to get there. Join FCA/NER too, there are a lot of events to enjoy.
