I noticed a couple of good configuration 430's, with reasonably lower mileage, decent history/records and seemingly decent asking prices. On the listing, both have been for sale for nearly a year.

    -Is the market deteriorating?
-Are the cars perhaps not as good as advertised, or previously had unsatisfactory PPIs?

Nope, the market is just fine.

It could be that, or they could actually be overpriced, not advertised in the best places to gain the most audience, have something bad in their history, etc.

Hard to say without knowing the prices/condition/location/etc. Could be as simple as a failed PPI, non desirable combo, crappy seller (or non-communicative seller)

I do see more F430's for sale right now, but it's getting close to winter and nobody is really shopping for expensive toys this time of year unless it's for their kids.

If you're looking at cars.com, cargurus, autotrader, etc, Ferraris seem to sit for a long time.

Overall I have seen a softening of prices on all Classics, Collectibles, whatever you want to call them, over the past year. My attorney is looking at the early Series 1 E types. I have kept and eye out for him and indeed, it seems the cars are not moving at the pace they were a few years ago.

I don't ever expect to buy a car like my Ferrari (360 F1) and turn it over in a few years for a profit. The long game is where the gain in value will be IMO. The market frenzy on the 360 and 430 is past and if I were to be in the market for a 430, I would find the car I want to start enjoying. You'll have to decide if you are willing to wait out the market to see what it does (which could be another year or more), or find the 430 you'd be happy with and start enjoying it.

Negotiate and settle on a price you are comfortable with and don't fall for thinking your 430 is an investment. To be sure, if bought right, it will "hold" it's value. I bought my 360 over six years ago. I shopped for the right car with records, options, and colors, I'd be happy with. I negotiated with the dealer for 2 weeks over the price and I had been shopping for a 360 for over 3 months including a flight to Penn. to see one. I even began my search in late August of that year knowing that winter would not be a great time to sell a Ferrari to someone who would have to wait for the snow to melt before enjoying their purchase. ;)

Six years later I still could sell the car for what I paid for it. Buy right, lever what you can, and remember you're the guy with the $$-- he's the guy sitting on a car. You can take your $$ anywhere.

Just an additional note, I don't think the market will "deteriorate." Maybe go up or down slightly depending on larger financial markets. I would say now is a good time to buy and don't expect some large correction or dip that you can jump on in the near future. It's my opinion that you have a greater chance of something happening that will make the F430 popular and bump prices up versus something that will cause them to fall significantly.

Well, at least in my case, I'm not willing to consider lowball offers. My F430 is arguably the nicest and best maintained red/tan coupe for sale in the USA. I priced it according to comparable ones available at other reputable sellers, but nobody on this forum, except one (maybe) is willing to pay what it's worth in the real world. Plus, I'm fine with keeping it rather than reduce the price because somebody found one on Craigslist for 20k less.

I don't know if BR is "spot on" with the quality of what he has on offer - or if he's deluded - but I'll post the following in support of him! :)

Bought my 430 Spider about 18 months ago - found a really nice one that I even inspected personally - then passed on it for one "sight unseen" that had to shipped 1,000 miles because it cost $15K less - and then I had to put $30K in it and it's not as nice as the one I originally passed on...

My ass is already sore from kicking it myself - but FAIR WARNING TO ALL that you don't shop these based on price. Get a NICE ONE and you're ahead of the game...

Agreed. And that's why everybody always asked for maintenance history. There are plenty of us with stacks of receipts, pictures, online documentation, etc that are easy enough to find versus dealers that offer one that looks nice but has no history. I feel like it's those that sit the longest, especially if the selling dealer has not done any type of background check on it and is not located anywhere near a reputable shop for you to have a PPI done. Just makes it that much harder to move as nobody is going to take a chance on an out of state vehicle that can't be easily inspected unless it's some rare combo that doesn't come up often. If it's red, you basically have your choice of good examples with a history to choose from.
