I just sold my 430 and am in the market for a 458. I wanted White over Black 2012 or newer and am seeing prices from $225K to $240K. One of the dealers I was talking to where I have a relationship with told me they have a new 2015 458 coming in Red/Tan and I could have it at MSRP. $268K. The buyer that had committed had to back out. What would you do? What will this car be worth in a year with less than 2000 miles on it? I know tough question - but had to ask. Thanks in advance.
Do not know about the UK, but in the USA I have never heard of a dealer to discount on a NEW vehicle.
On the other hand they are not allowed to sell a NEW vehicle for over list either so the fact that he will sell it to you at MSRP is no biggie. ( They can sell used vehicles for over list and often do )
If the white / black color is what you want, why not buy a good used one and save? Most Ferrari's are well maintained and you still have the maintenance warranty. If "new" and a "compromise" (in color, etc.) is worth it, then spend the money. In either case, you will NOT make money when you sell. Best
At 268K MSRP the car you're looking at has no options. The bad news is, in Ferrari Land, a car with no options is very undesirable. So look for 240k resale. The good news is, at that resale price, you're likely to get some serious consideration by the, shall we say, "entry level" people. In any event, if you plan to sell the car in a year, standby to lose big dollars. Used or new.
Addendum to my post: I was assuming the car was a Spider. If it's not, please proceed directly to the last sentence.
New cars cannot be priced over MSRP. That is a mid spec coupe at that price which is probably good as resale prices really are based on averages of all cars. Thus, us folks who buy highly optioned cars (my 2014 had a MSRP of 296) tend to loose the most money as the options depreciate much more than the base car. Granted we pay more because the car is "our spec"...At least for the average 18 month these cars are kept.......
I agree with those above. Dealers can not sell you a new car above MSRP. He isn't doing you any big favor. Now if he discounted it that would be a favor. Tell him you'll give him $255k and see what he says.
