Hi Guys- I've been using an Optima Deep Cycle SC34DU battery and would like to know where I can find a Optima retailer in central Toronto or an equivalent quality replacement? Thanks.

We had Optima log in here to the website, to defend it's reputation.....I don't recall the exact LogIn they used, tho.

They should be able to help you, Morry!

Try Odyssey batteries, which have gotten good reviews in the technical and other sections of this forum. If you Google "optima battery alternative," you will find other leads, such as V power. These are generally deep cycle (like the yellow top) and absorptive-mat or "dry" batteries.

BigTex seems to have good experience with Optima. I did too. I still have a Yellow Top bought 10 years ago and still in use (knock on wood)" Since then I bought at least 3 new Optimas, all duds. They died within 5 months. Optima seems either to have changed corporate policy (no more long-lasting batteries) or suffered a major, still uncured, quality control problem. Too bad. Surf the web and this forum and you will find my bad experience has not been unusual.

Optimas are available here now where I live, so it would be nice if they overcame their problems. I am not anti Optima, but just feel stupid not having learned from the 1st dud. The Odyssey manufacturer is I red the designer of Optima, and resolved to build a better one. Odyssey appears rhe way to go then. I have no experience with them though.

    Good luck.

Thanks. What I have found with the Dino and it's Optima batteries, is that once the battery dies once (ie from sitting and not being driven for 3 weeks and being drained from my Boomerang tracking device), is that it can be recharged but won't keep the full charge ever again. So when it dies once, I literally need to buy another.......

No, I use cheap conventional lead/acid....LOL!

There was discussion in the 308 Section actually complaining about Optima experiences (heat exposure, and also Morry's observation on discharge tolerance, as well as overall QC issues) and someone from the manufacturer chimed in..

I wish I could link to the thread.

Optima apparently had a rough spot in it's production for some reason and got a really poor reputation for awhile, no idea on current situation. They also make several series, one for boats is deep cycle tolerant.
