    Hello All

Currently own a 599 and at some stage want to get either an F12 or an 812

My local dealer is still taking orders for the 812 (circa 2020 delivery) but is likely closing in a few days

Im having trouble thinking straight at the moment, but not sure whether it makes more sense to just get an F12 in 3 years, or put my name down for an 812 and get that in 3 years

F12's new here were around $730k base and ended up being $760-770k thereabouts drive away, and the new 812 is circa $655k base, so maybe $670-700k driveaway

As for which car I prefer, I love and prefer the F12 right now, but its too early for me to say whether I like the 812 or not

I have never ordered and specced car from new so this is totally new to me, as I always buy used, whatever is on the floor.

For some reason I can't really think logically at the moment, but can anyone offer any advice? Do you think the 812 will be worth it.

    Thanks

i think nobody can really tell yet if the 812 is "worth" it but you can be sure it wont disappoint :) i am really happy with the F12, its a fantastic car..it took a while to get used to it though, but i have had a short one day test drive with a TDF and it feels quite different..and if you consider the 812 having a "similar" virtual short wheelbase..then it really depends on your personal taste and on how long you are willing to wait..

Not sure where here is - but looking at the prices you quote I'd assume it's Australia. In your position I'd just put down a deposit on an 812 to lock in. a car around 2020 and then wait a b it and decide if you get a nice spec F12 in the interim. The 812 will be an awesome car in terms of performance - it will be up to you in 2020 if you decide to get that or stick with your F12. I don't think you can lose. Going to the F12 is an immediate step up in performance from the 599 so that's a good start!!!

Why not do both? Take the F12 now with a back up 812 to follow. What's to lose?

As I have said before, you can make more money but you cannot make more time and 2020 is about 105million heart beats away!

Spot on - and there are a few good F12's around (if in fact you are in Oz)

Also agree. And honestly...once you get the F12, you are gonna forget about the 812.

That Tesla nose and Corvette rear can't compete with the elegant curves of the F12. Every time i park my car, i can't help looking back at it for a moment. :)

    Thank you

Also the interior. F12 is superior.

The F12 is a car we know everything about and there are no surprises, is a all line overall winner with great aesthetics and performance. The 812 performance wise is expected to be something exceptional however, aesthetically, still has to prove that is at least as pretty as the F12.

I think that's a very personal decision and if you can do both like TIM (Traveller) suggests.

Thanks for the input. Always good to get a perspective from others in the know.

Performance wise yes I am sure the 812 will blow me away, but, like many others, performance isn't everything for me. The F12 tho, thats something I do love, oh so very much! Looks alone I'd go for the F12 in a heartbeat, but as I say, I haven't seen an 812 in person yet so can't say for sure.

I think whats holding me back is that I don't "love" the 812 at this point in time as I haven't seen enough of it yet, and am maybe wanting to do it more just because I know I may be able to get a limited allocation on a new Ferrari. Dont want to be in a position in 3 years where I perhaps have an F12 in my garage and will then have to cough up the $$ for an 812 I may not want once I have an F12 and lose my deposit.

And yes I am in Aus :)

Plus I have only had the 599 for 3 months, so am not ready to upgrade to an F12 just yet as I want to enjoy the 599 a bit first. (unless I see a deal I can't refuse)

Get on the list. This is your chance. What does it cost you? If its a matter of waiting some time for the F12, then getting on the list still isn't a problem for today. And then decide if/when you want to get the F12. By the way, the performance of the 599 should blow you away. And if you get an F12, that will be another big step. And it appears the 812 will be yet another. Basically I am with the guys saying its good to have options.

Unless your dealer does it differently from mine, there's no cost to being on the list other than perhaps providing a refundable deposit.

Since you've only had your 599 for three months, I doubt you are tired of her.

I would think that it is not the right time to trade up to an F12.

From a price perspective, you will get a better price on a lightly used F12 by waiting a year or two.

It sounds like you aren't completely smitten by the 812--is that on the basis of the photos alone? When will your dealer have a press car for you to look at?

Can you arrange a viewing with the right to drop off the list without penalty if you don't like the car in the metal?

Let me look at my crystal ball and foretell the future for you. Here's a reality check. You might not be alive in 3 years. Buy an f12 today and enjoy life. Deal with 3 years in 3 years.

If u have a terminal illness that would change things a bit.

I would suggest a lease rather than purchase.

So you have a 599 for only 90 days and you are possibly considering a total of three cars within next three years and you are also concerned about depreciation. Suggest driving that 599 for another year as its already depreciated. Reassess after you've had your fill. You might be thinking more logically by then. 599 is not a shabby ride.

There's only one reasonable solution. Get your name down for the 812. The slot will easily be moved on if you don't like the car when you start seeing them around and the dealer gets his demo for you to drive. But, as is much more likely, as you and most of those that are currently unsure of the car (same as with all the new models) grow to love it with familiarity, you will, regret deeply not putting your name down when you had the chance. Enjoy the 599 in the meantime.

When you drive the 812 demo and think "wow, this is incredible" and if that spoils it for you and the 599, have a go in an F12.

There is always the possibility that you could fly somewhere SPECIFICALLY to see the 812 "in person."

The cost of the travel is quite small compared to the cost of ownership........
