Btw Orego, would be also great to hear from your visit: I am curious to hear which configuration you chose for your 458! Did you manage to see the white 458 of Alonso? it was supposed to be still in the testing area, but they couldn't find it. For me, while they were a lot of very nice cars in the factory, I decided to go "classic"... and nearly the same as the car they exposed in L'Atelier: rosso Scuderia with chromed version of the sport rims, and with black interior and red stitching. I basically configured the same except for the racing seat instead of the electrical seat, as well as some additional alcantara.
Looks like that three layer yellow is really going to be something special when you see it in the flesh.
That 3 layer (tripoli giallo modena-I think) was on display when I was in Maranello. Such a beautiful color, many shadows, many changes in shape with every walk around. Pricey option, but most certainly worth it if yellow is your color.
Yes, the way this kind of paint changes as the eye moves across a curved surface should suit this design well. I'm very tempted, despite the silly cost. Did I also see that there's a deep red in the 3 layer finish? I wonder, though, how on earth you touch up a three layer paint finish when you're dealing with stone chips and minor scratches...
I didn't see red in a triple layer but it would not surprise me if it's out there. Touch up on 3 layer yellow? Good point. I've had some rough paint finishes on new Ferraris. Ferrari does put a very hard clear coat on paint and most surface scratches should go away with normal paint correction. Deeper ones wet sanded as most chips I have found don't get to the paint but rather it's the clear coat that takes the punishment. I think you should go for the triple yellow.
I take it you mean tricolor. They are easy to find on this forum. This is the yellow that was on show at Frankfurt last September when the 458 was launched. That's easy. You can't. You need to respray the whole panel if the paint is chipped or scratched - and often the adjoining panels due to the difficulty with the colour match of the pearl coat. That's why we Lambo owners slap a clearbra on before the car leaves the dealer.
That is why I am giving it a miss. I learned my lesson with Bianco Fuji and I suspect it is easier to work with than the 3 layer. Stone chips are a reality for me and fixing them easily is a priority
A long time ago I use to have trick paint on a Caterham Super 7. I soon found out that the paint cost more than the body panels when I came to having some work done on the car.
I think this is the triple layer red 'Rosso Monza' that was first seen on the 599. CH Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is the three layer red. It's called Rosso Fuoco (Fire Red). I saw it on a car at the World Premiere and personally wasn't blown away by it. Having owned a 430 spider in Bianco Fuji I can confirm it's a PITA if you need any paintwork done. I had mine covered with 3M film on the full front end and side skirts. Here is a Cali in the same colour. These pics are more accurate representations of the colour under bright sunlight. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I wouldn't go that far. They have expanded Ferrari Experience at Mont Tremblant after all, just added the Evolution (using 430 Challenge with full telemetry, custom fitted racing suits for participants) this year. Basic and Advanced will use 458s,Scuds and 599 HGTEs.....
