Mayor, Not so sure. I just drove the 488 today and it's pretty phenomenal! I also have a 458 and I have to say the car simply looks and feels dated after driving the 488. I will give my impressions later tonight when able. In the meantime have you driven the 488 yourself yet?? I think you'll be surprised..
I doubt he has driven it. While a long time contributor, the mayor seams to spend more and more of his time bashing Ferrari and everything they have done since the Dino. I believe he had a 458 spider a while ago but sold it. I'm not quite sure why anyone would spend so much time and effort on a forum for a brand that they have come to dislike? Seams like a a lot of wasted negative energy. To each his (or her) own but I myself love the brand and can't wait for my new 488 and I loved the 458 and the 430 before that.
Mine will be here in 6-8 weeks. Don't know if you've driven 488 yet either but I can tell you you won't be disappointed at all. A few trade offs sure but overall Ferrri did a great job.
I am worried about the sound difference from my stock 458 spider, how was the comparison when you guys drove it. I have heard the 488 spider revving and running at the dealership.
Meh.... so it goes to 60mph 0.3 seconds faster. Great! I still don't care. I cannot get excited about this car. Here is the question Is a new 488 coupe worth 100 grand more and 2-3 years of your life waiting for it? I don't think so.
To me it's worth the money. Not sure if I'd wait 2-3 years for any car. In the past if I wanted something bad enough I just paid extra for it. The car will hold its value well for at least the first 24 months. I fortunately don't have to worry about the wait as mine is due to arrive in March or April.. All I'm saying is don't knock it before you drive it. It's impressive to say the least..
The Bluetooth audio connectivity is worth something!! Did you get the Apple CarPlay? Seems like it's a bit steep for apps on a non touch screen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have not driven it but my build reportedly started this week and is 8-9 weeks away from delivery as I did regular shipping.(First week of April I'm told). I sold my 458 and have not looked back. I also have a 2015 911 TTS which I use as a DD (I need rear seats for my girls) and I suspect the Ferrari Turbo will be nothing but spectacular..
My point is: If you are a new first time buyer and you have a 2-3 year wait in LA (anyone not believe that is the case?) you should forget the 488 and buy a used 458 for less money that you can get tomorrow and save the aggravation and some money to boot. Is it really worth 3 years of your life and $100 grand out of your pocket? No one on their death bed ever said "gee I'm so glad I didn't buy that Ferrari".
I also have a 911 TTS as my daily, which I love, but looking forward to getting back into my Ferrari. Excited for you!
Your last line made me laugh..... Several yrs ago at a funeral, a gentleman delivering one of the eulogies said the deceased had only one regret in his life and it was 'that he didn't buy more Ferraris!' Never forgot that line
Yeah, it is what is. I really like my dealer and have to except that theyre making the best business decision for themselves. Guys are either hooked up tighter, or are willing to sweeten the pot to make it happen. Some things never change. Hindsights always 20-20. Had I know, I never would have sold my 458
here's my totally unscientific opinion on what may be brewing to address this situation with the recent results, or lack thereof of Ferrari's stock performance, several things are going to take place at the top of Ferrari management with pressure to get shareholders back to where the stock opened at and to produce a meaningful ROI, the board will be faced with several options 1. they can increase prices to generate additional income 2. they can increase production to add additional income, which should reduce wait times to the Ferrari 'desired' 1 year wait, but the objections from within Ferrari will be decreased 'exclusivity' to which the board may choose to ignore in search of better ROI If we assume a 'pent-up demand' of say 50 - 75 cars in So Cal the largest US market, & corresponding 'pent up' demand in other regions of the US, adding 400 - 500 cars to the mix would probably bring the wait times to a 1 yr period regardless of 'prior history' & 'relationship with dealer' etc. the pressure to do the unthinkable i.e. an SUV ala Porsche, Bentley, Lambo. Rolls. et al will become increasingly difficult to ignore if ROI is the driving force at the board level so i'm thinking something will be happening sooner rather than later to get the stockholders happy again from the precipitous drop in the stock price since the IPO remember, it's a public company now, and it's all about the money i'm guessing as we speak the board is trying to come to terms with increasing revenues, getting the stock price up, and dealing with excessive wait times for new customers just my $.02
Well said - IMO the Dino will play a big roll in expanding portfolio and profits Especially if it's introduced as a separate brand which some have suggested
I personally had great experience looking at inventories at Ferrari of Los Angeles even though i never bought a car from them. The sales person was great. the California-T only had 3 months wait time. you can walk in dealership in Europe now and pick up a 488. There are a few 488 running around so cal already. Its not a limited production car by any means
Brilliant response! So you figure I have the plaque, or what? It's 13 month since I was made the commitment and still no allocation. How do you figure that on a car that "is not a limited production car by any means"?
Every model would only last 5 years. By the time you get your car, it's already half way. Why don't you buy it from other state? Looks like they are waiting for you to mention about premium yourself.
You asked him the wait list for the Cali did you bother to ask the wait list for first time 488 buyer ?? "IF" not why are you commenting on how easy it is to get one
All the states have varying wait lists some may be a few months shorter but NOT years Secondly if you have a dealer in the city where you live then other dealers will Not sell to you
