Hi to everybody I don't have or even own one Ferrari yet but hopefully sometime soon when I am ready. I was just wondering on how you lucky owners order your Ferrari(s)?

I mean do your dealer calls and you ask if you are interested with the new model, you go there and tell them you are interested with a new car and help you spec out your new Ferrari or do you have to be on their list in order for you to get a new one?

Sorry just being curious on how the "SOP" goes for a Ferrari.

I am not an owner myself, and owners will pipe up and correct me on the various points (as I welcome them to).

The way I understand it however is that one goes to the dealer, expresses their interest in purchasing the new model and (possibly) lays a deposit to "get on the list". "the list" as I understand it is really just a pool of dealer clients for whom the dealer has a high confidence that the client will buy a car.

The dealer then calls clients in to spec their car and complete the purchase from the pool in order of client history. The more dealings with the dealer the better.

I hope I summed it up correctly and I hope that owners will pipe in and corect me on the relevant point(s).

The dealer has to approve you on the waiting list first. Then you'll spec the car and give your deposit at the same time. In order to get on the list you'll need to first have a relationship with your dealer of choice and the more generous you're then the better/faster chances on getting into the waiting list. It's a dance and you'll have to dance exactly to their rhythm and if the music is slow be patient, in Latin ways only the driving and the talking is fast paced, everything else is taken slowly. Remember that you'll have to prove your loyalty and keep the dealings between you and the dealership a total secret.
You have to buy your way in and it will costs lots of money and years before you get into that list. But one day they will open the books and let you know if you're part of the family, it is worth it and just take my word on that. They are great with their customers, but you better return the favor and remain loyal because there are enough wealthy pricks to pick from as customers. If you can afford this then you'll have a great smile when you get to sign the spec papers, is like losing your virginity and far more memorable.

    Note,
Things have changed now with the bad economy so it's hard to tell now how is Ferrari is dealing with customers or potential ones, but one thing is for sure and that is that the 458 does have a real line of very vip and good Ferrari customers all lined up. Good luck.

While I can certainly appreciate the point you're making... I sure hope the girl you lost your virginity to isn't reading these forums - what a hammer that would be to her ego.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Well I guess only time will tell as of now and probably this is where the dealer could really tell who are the loyal ones.

Another question, do FNA (Ferrari North America) still require one year ownership of the new car before you can sell it because I've been seeing 2010 California's pre-owned on sale already?

I always felt this one year ownership issue was not really what people thought it was.

The requirement was that if you wanted to sell it in the first year, you had to give the dealer FIRST RIGHT OF REFUSAL to buy it back at MSRP. The idea was to cut down on speculators who flipped them... which is just fine with me.

I'm sure with the economy being what it is, that went out the door a while back.

Oh I see so that's the real meaning and all the while I thought it's the other one if you take the words literally, thanks.

Except for the 458, is there really a line to order a new Ferrari these days?
