Has anyone had experience using Oregon instead of Montana to register your cars? I feel like Montana is so prevalent these days, Oregon flies a lot more under the radar. Is setting up OR registration the same as MT in terms of registering it, insurance, etc? I know vehicle emissions inspection required in some areas but I think as long as I get a registered agent outside of Portland and Medford I should be exempt?

Most of the discussion here is either will get you put in jail or heavily fined once you are caught

Just move to Florida. Sales tax is only 6% with some counties like mine extra 0.5% first $5k so not much at all. No vehicle inspections or emissions inspections. Annual registration is like $35 and that's it. And we have no front license plates required.

First step would be to see what your state regulations are for car registration. Some states are clear about registration requirements being within the state where the car is used, not where, or by whom or what means, the car is titled.

No personal experience with OR or MT LLCs for registering vehicles, but unless they (the vehicles) are mainly used and operator has residency in those States, the practice is merely a tax evasion, i.e. illegal and driving/using said vehicles in other States, especially in operator's State of main residency is clearly showing off the said tax evasion and if a person gets fined for that, they deserve it.

But, but, AFAIK, there are no interesting/intriguing roads to drive in (most of ?) Florida, so why would any true car/driving enthusiast want to live there, especially if they have/own any that are intended for driving enjoyment/pleasures ? ;):D

Ah but a real Ferrari enthusiast would never put miles on their car, right?! ;) The car is meaningless after 5k miles lol. :D

That is true about our lack of roads and one reason I have't gone for a high end sports car. The Appalachians are close enough for a weekend road trip for me at least. I actually moved back to FL from AZ as there are tons of car events that are fun to be a spectator. Daytona (Rolex 24 + 500), NHRA Gator Nationals, Sebring IMSA (WEC sometimes), Indy Car, F1, etc, etc.

    Yes.

If your driver's license says one thing and the car registration says another, you could be in trouble.

If you have utility bills coming to one place, but your car/license is elsewhere, it could be a problem.

I don't know what happens if you have two HONEST residences in two different states...

I DO know a ton of full-time RV'ers domicile in South Dakota - and don't live there, have no
    brick-and-mortar 'home' there - and it's legal.
There are companies out there that that is their only business - set things up for you, all the paperwork, legally.

There are a bunch of neat roads to drive in Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska,
but for some reason I don't see serious drivers flocking here.... :)

States with high registration fees are pretty adept figuring out where the car actually is. Because of state residency requirements for income taxes, and because of the number of people who try things like this, they know where to look to show where you, the car and other things related to you physically are. If you don’t own a home, don’t use a credit card, and buy fuel in bulk, you might be OK. If you do, not so much.

Remember that when you make up some foolproof plan no one would ever guess, and that no one has ever tried before, the police and DMV have heard it twice this week.

Registering boats and RV’s out of state is a lot easier because of RV storage, and for fresh water boats because it isn’t uncommon to store and use them in a different state; cars not so much. I know the costs are abusive, but the penalties are more when they catch up to you.

I hear you, but having never had interest in any sports, including motorized, as a spectator, I can’t relate to those.
I’ve always been a participant in driving pleasures, especially in vintage cars and have racked up over 1/2M miles behind the wheels of over 100 I’ve owned along with dozens of others belonging to other.

Two of the main reasons I love living in SoCal are the climate and easy/plentiful variety of great driving roads/routes, former accommodating year-round access to enjoy latter.

Well, perhaps you’re just lucky not having to share them much ;)
… as that is or would be my only complaint around here in CA (way too many unqualified* people operating motor vehicles on public roads around here ).

    * Including (too) many who are delusional and think of themselves as “serious drivers” or “true car enthusiasts”.

Two things you need to check.

    1) What are your State laws regarding registering a car out of state and garaging it in your home state?

    2) What does your insurance company say about driving your car in your home state while stating that it is garaged in another state?
