I have the original Owners Warranty and Service Book, Delivery paperwork and the factory fabric binder that was given to owner when car was delivered. I bought on e-bay years ago and really have no need for it.

I would like to get it to the owner of the car so if anyone knows who has the 1983 308 GTS Serial # 47853 please put them in contact with me.

The car was delivered new on 6-7-84 in Honolulu HI to Rogers Liddle by Continetal Cars Ltd.

I did check the Registry site but car is not listed.

That car was delivered quite a bit away from you wasn't it? Did you buy it in FL?

    Tommy,

The books are not related to my car. I just bought the material off e-bay years ago.

You might contact the dealer in HI and see if they know about it. They could call the owner if the car is still serviced by them.

A free Carfax check of VIN ZFFMA13A0D0047853 shows 16 records found. Maybe someone with a Carfax subscription can run a report and at least see where the car is currently registered. It might even show the location of any emission testing centers used which would narrow down the area pretty close.

I checked this thread because I am looking for these items for my 308. But these are not for mine.

However, I always wonder why these items get separated from the car in the first place. Maybe you can reverse the process by contacting the ebay seller who sold it to you.

This story should be on TLC or something...very touching, a car reunited with it's books.

I wonder how they got separated.

The story takes a strange turn:

The current owner of the car contacted me (by e-mail) and thanked me for my efforts but seems not to want the material (I still find that hard to believe). I never asked for money and had no interest in a payment so now I guess I will sell the material. The Ferrari Delivery binder is something I had never know existed and is really a very nice piece.

    I tried.

Do you have a pic of the binder and materials to post? I'm interested in seeing what it looks like.

    Thanks!

That was very generous of you. These items would have sold on Ebay for some good money.

Paul, you are a saint! You are to be commended for going to such efforts to return this to the rightful car/owner (though it would be nice if the owner compensated you for at least your "costs".

When my 78 308 GTS was totalled by the insurance company, I kept the books, since they where at my office, and not with the car at the body shop. Didn't really matter, since they were not original to the car (from a 76 GTB delivered in Beverly Hills, CA). I posted here, and on the Ferrarilist, but was not able to find the original owner, so I listed the various papers, books, and pouch on Ebay. The pouch itself was rather tattered, but everything else was in nice shape. I think I got around $800 all told. Not bad, as the previous owner told me he picked them up at a Ferrari "swap meet" for $300 many years before.

Anyway, nice story, and glad they are on their way back to the car.

$800???? Is it to late to change my mind?

    Just kidding.........I think.

The owner did offer to pay shipping but I decline the offer.

I bought these off e-bay years ago (not $800) when I thought about keeping my car original but since I went a different route I just thought it would be nice to get them to the current owner. You see what people go through with keeping their car original so why not assist them in their goal....it really didn't cost me much.

I can assure you that I am not a saint (just ask a great number of F Chatters) but I appreciate the comment espically coming from dave (truly i do).

Hey, I'll agree that you're not a saint, I don't remember what we sparred over, but I do agree that this is a really neat thing you're doing and commend you for it! Now maybe I should find the car that matches the paperwork _I_ have... OK, off to the garage to match them back together! :D

you know, there's some discussion about these cases going on right now, as well as (at least) one for sale on ebay for $700. I would be a little hesitant if I were you seeing as how the owner said "no", then recanted. I would think that maybe he is going to turn around and sell it. I hope he splits the coin with you if he does...

I don't think that will happen, as I said before he didn't originally realize what was being offered as he got the info from the Ferrari dealer who I think misunderstood what I had to give back. He thought it was just copies of old service records which the dealer had already. He is the fourth owner and he seems to really cherish his 308.
