    Hi everyone,

I recently registered my 1980 308 GTBi on the Ferrari website. I entered the VIN and the system came back indicating the car was Nero with Rosso leather and Carpet. Is anyone familiar with the accuracy of this? I didn't ask for colors but they automatically showed up when I registered under the "My Ferrari" section.

    Thank you,

    Mike in Denver

Ferrari's data is pretty good through the owners website.

Over the years many were repainted red.

Yep, I'm thinking mine may be one of them. Looks great in red but I'm considering going back to original. I had a "65 Mustang convertible a few years ago that had also been repainted red. I had to restore it to the original "Tropical Turquoise". Ended up very happy with it. Not so sure about the red interior though...

Nero over red is a great color scheme for a 308, assuming you're willing spend the money for a proper color change.

When I bought my car a dozen years back, most guys figured a red 308 had a very pronounced price advantage of 3-5k and spyders as well enjoyed an additional price advantage. Then came the yellow 355/360 which seemed so nice and gradually a 308 in blue, black, gray, yellow, prugna etc gained an acceptance. And open cars have lost their appeal to others. Times change

Moral of the story: Leave your 308 the color it was when it came from the factory.

My own GTB is a somewhat rare combination of silver over red leather w/black carpets. Might not be everyone's cup o' tea, but it's distinctive, and I like it.

I'm also meeting increasing numbers of people who say they prefer the GTB for various reasons. (Maybe it's just that they're a little bit rarer: I suspect that if there were more fiberglass than steel 308s, everyone would want the metal ones!)

I really appreciate the insight and opinions or this board. I know the challenges of black as I have previously painted two black cars myself. I do prefer the GTB (maybe I'm biased) and when the time comes I may return it to its original look.
