Just watched it on Speed tonight. Other than the horrific sideburns and bad acting its a pretty good movie. It could use more Ferrari scenes but the chase with the Mustang is pretty action packed to say the least. There were some other cool cars as well including a Manta(?) never heard of it before but it looked pretty wild. Anyone else watch it tonight, or ever for that matter?

I have the DVD with the movie & documentary on it. The creator was an interesting guy for sure.

You mean the car they had on the clips on the commercial. I think it was some weird concept stunt car or something.

I caught it also last night I saw it listed and thought it was the 2000 version but was pleasantly suprised to see it was the original. I have it on Video also so I've watched it a few times.
The car that was stolen from the detail shop belonged to Lyle Wagoneer and it was an Italian car but I believe it was one of those models that were designed by an Italian company but had an American engine, the . name of the car is right at the tip of my tongue but I can't quite remember it. This is gonna bug me.

The original was great. The chase was, at the time, the longest in any movie (almost an hour).

There was a Pantera in the movie, yes, but the one stolen from car detail/wash place was an Intermeccanica Italia. I'd love to have one.

  12. Yep Matt is correct. It came with a 351 Cleveland also from what I remember. Most that you see will be the fixed hardtop version. I think the body was made out of fiberglass. Did anyone else see the two Panteras and the Mangusta in the storage area?

I'm not sure if all Italias had the same engine or not, but we had one at the ItalianCarFest here in Dallas last year, and it had a 351 Windsor. I don't know if it was the original engine or not.

yep definitely a worthwhile popcorn fest. makes the 'remake' look pitiful in comparison, i mean all the new movie was was a bunch of shots of half decent cars with 2 or three chases with way way way too many camera changes to be coherent.

watch the original and forget the 70's cheese, it's a great flick. love the Manta! :)

It's a great movie, get the DVD. Yes I agree that cage ruins movies. The remake made me want to get the original. Maybe thats what they intended. When Gone in 60 seconds was originally released several of the stunt cars used in the movie toured the country. The one we saw was absolutely trashed. It was a dead stock car with a very heavy cage.

Another great original movie: Gumball Rally

In 1973 my best friend moved to Fresno. My brother and I used to take Amtrak to visit him and his family for approx the next 5 summers.Anyway during one of the aforementioned trips to Fresno,we walked to the local supermarket/drugstore complex and someone walked up to us and handed us all a flyer. It said "come see this cool ,action movie ,tonight only, special screening! or other words to this effect. The guy handing out the flyers said we had to come and see it,said it was for 1 night only and was really trying to sell us on it.We decided WTF and went to the screening. After the movie ended,we walked out of the theater and there in the parking lot, on a trailer was "Eleanor",the 71-3 model year Mach 1 Mustang used in the film.for a 13 year old car nut it was too cool ! I crawled over and under the car inspecting it thoroughly.Boy, was it hammered ! It had massive tubing hidden under the sheet metal and various reinforcements and armor plating etc.etc. every surface was bent, dented or holed. This was really a cool experience for my friends and I. Over the many years since this happened,as I have drifted back and thought about it ,The thing that I have realized is just how low budget this film was and how small the production company was too.It was really just a family business. Why they were in Fresno and not the L.A./Hollywood area is unknown to me.It didnt show where I lived in Cerritos for quite a long time afterwards and I had more than 1 friend accuse my of B.S ing them about this "Cool" car flick that I supposedily saw in Fresno. The fact that they were physically canvassing the shopping center, trying to drum up business and also had the car there inorder to sell customers was something that I never saw before or since.Thewriter/producer/director/etc. was a guy named H.B.(Toby) Hallicki. he was a VERY independent film maker and was killed filming the sequel to Gone in 60 seconds,a film named "The Junkman". He did all of his own stunts, but I think that a set collapsed on him or something similar if I remember correctly.I may be wrong though. Damn, I'm Brain dead at 44. Tim
