Hello all, Could someone please confirm what were the original ignition and door keys issued with a 1989 328 GTS. I have attached pics of what I got with my car a few weeks back yet when I search around to try to get some blanks, the folding style ignition key is categorized as 348 keys? Your help is appreciated. Cheers, Bob. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes they are the original keys , I have the same ones that came with my car they gave me 3 sets with fobs my father bought the car new.
Those look like the original keys to my '88.5 328. Good luck finding new blanks in those styles. They simply aren't available anymore. There's a long thread from about this time last year documenting my search for blanks. The F50 ignition blank fits the 328 and there are Ferrari door blanks available that fit and are nicer than the originals. You can get them only from a Ferrari dealer. You will have to provide proof of ownership to get them. The ignition blank is about $65 and the door blank is about $35. Also, the ignition key is steel and not many locksmiths will be able to cut it for you. It cost me $45 to get 2 ignition keys and 2 door keys cut. Plus ~$180 for the blanks. The original keys are in my safe and I use the new ones instead. Hope that helps.
I'm here in Australia and getting aftermarket blanks wasn't hard but it still took 2 goes. The door key replacement is a Silca AF4D and the ignition key is also Silca NE 9A. They thought the ignition key may not have fitted when in fact it went in and turned beautifully yet the boofhead gave me the wrong door key thus didn't fit. I rang the Australian distributor for the keys and that's when they told me that Silca AF4D is the correct door key. They gave me AF4C or something. Cost wise they were pretty cheap, under $10.00 supplied and cut. I'm a stickler for originality hence why I'd love to get a genuine folding one. Cheers, Bob.
There were a couple for sale on eBay relatively recently, but they were selling at $160 a piece. Other than those two that I saw for sale on that website, I haven't seen any others available... Bob
There is a Neimann original key blank (OEM) on ebay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FERRARI-308-328-2V-QV-NEIMAN-KEY-BLANK-ORIGINAL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ40016QQihZ001QQitemZ110180513740QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I used an australian company called Keys For Classics to get my "pre-cut" non-oem keys made and sent to me (I have the original set of keys with the key codes on the keys for my 308 GTS QV). They are: http://www.keysforclassics.com/ I'm not sure they make 328 keys but I would assume so. James in Denver EDIT: The Neimann key is for the 308 QV (my car is an 84 QV), I dont know which other years have the same keys.
The 348/308/mondial/TR key looks a lot like it, but is not the same, I sold a few of those for around $160, and from what my sources tell me, the 328 key is about $40 more if you can get one.
I think one of my keys may be original, it is branded Dino on one side and Cromodora on the other. It is the door lock key for my 1979 308 GT4. I would love to see pics of other original keys.
My 1986 mondial only came with the original (1) set of keys and I knew that is a problem waiting to happen. I found Keys for classics through their ebay listings and had them cut both ignition and door keys from the codes in my warranty manual. The door keys worked great, the ignition keys did not work from the code I had, but the owner sorted it out based on digital pictures I sent him of my original key - sent me w new set on goodwill that I would pay if they worked - and they did (I paid), finally he also sent me the correct key code (mine was one digit off). All in I think I spent $50 for three sets of keys. Great service on their end.
Keep searching ebay. I've bought both keys from ebay at about $100, but I had to wait a few months for the ignition key.
So, just to clarify, the 308/348/mondial/TR folding key looks like the folding 328 key but is not quite the same? What are the differences? Thanks.
I have an '89 328 GTB that I bought from the original owner. Those are the same keys that I have that came on the original pouch key chain. I also have the spare keys on a Wide World of Cars key chain, which is where the car was originally purchased.
The 308 keys I received with mine didn't fold or have a logo but were original Neimann and Torino keys (they might have been original second key sets). If anyone is interested I have some key blanks that look like the Torino in the last picture (for the fuel filler covers) that I had to special order when I wanted a spare set for my car. I have four or five blanks that I can part with and will sell them at my cost ($4.00) plus shipping to anyone who needs a fuel door key blank. Just PM me.
Careful, there are numerous "Styles" (Blank types) for the Torino key... E.G. "2" and "4". Look at the little number stamped stamped on the blank to be sure and these must match yours for a new blank to work.
They look identical, but have different cuts, so a 348/TR/Mondial/F40 blank key will not work for the 328.
So then how can you tell the difference between two blanks before any cuts are made? Is it the length of the steel part of the key?
Bob, Make a couple of sets of duplicate keys using the generic blanks mentioned and put your original set safely away. Barry
There's a number stamped on the blank. It doesn't have to do with the length, but the actual groove locations in the blank. On the Torino door keys for sure, don't know about the ignition key.
I just ordered two sets of this key from this place http://www.keys4classics.com/html/Fer208etc.html Ignition key for $3.95ea. and Door key $3.50ea, took it to my local locksmith to get it cut for only $1.00ea. and they work great. The service was fast I got it in less 5 days. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great idea. I have both my original sets, but plan to have these guys cut a spare set using my key codes. Mike, were they steel blanks?
I found my ignition key code handwritten in the front of the warranty book. I'd assume the four-digit code on the door key is the what they'd need to cut a new one.
Jon, yes they are good quality type steel same thickness as the original. There are diff. types of blanks for our cars if you look at this web site they will tell you which blank to order. http://www.keys4classics.com/html/Fer208etc.html
