I have Comcast but Im planning on swtiching. I live alone and my cable bill was $299 last month. I didnt even rent any of those good movies on ON DEMAND, crazy? I told the woman on the phone that bill is more than the average car payment. Im calling around on my day off this week.

With Cablevision, my bill is currently about $150 per month. This includes broadband internet, phone (unlimited US calling) and cable (with HBO channels as an add on). Guess I shouldn't complain, but I'm always looking for deals - with Cablevision, I got all three of those for $99 per month for a year. The Verizon setup uses DirecTV, which I used to have but switched because the HD content on Cable was better....perhaps this has changed.

I use verizon for Cell, DSL, local, regional & long distance. No TV.

The Cell is seperate from the rest of the services though friends tell me you can get them on one bill.

I do have a package deal:
DSL at 3MB, unlimited local, regional, national calling for $80/month.

Their customer service & tech support stinks. Sorry Greg_G. It does.

Just got all three from Verizon. I should save about $100./ month over cablevision and my reg phone bill. My only complaint is my TV's w/o a cable box do not get any cable stations where as with cablevision I did get non premium stations w/o the box.

What deal do you have, Clyde? I have unlimited local and regional (crap long distance) + DSL, but it costs me about that same $80/month....

Cable is usually TONS faster than DSL... my normal downstream with DSL is around 1.7mb while cable was around 3x faster... the big advantage with DSL is that it's $15/month cheaper...

However, with the $30 for each service with cable (e.g. "double play" -- cable modem + phone, or "triple play" -- add digital TV) for 1 year, that's a tough thing to beat... I was actually thinking of switching to that from what I have now (Verizon phone + DSL)....

If you call cablevision and tell em you want to drop the triple play package they will offer you the $29/$29/$29 deal again

Hmmm. I don't see any info on their site about this.....wonder if it is an unadvertised deal. I'll try them later.

Verizon's FIOS service is what you want to be checking for. Not available yet, but FTTP video/internet/voip will dominate the market.

Yes, FiOS definitely can be faster than cable if you really want/need the speed... I looked into this a year or so ago (they don't have it in my area), and the "regular" speed stuff (comparable to cable) costs about the same... upstream speeds are faster, than what's allowed via cable.

If you really want speed, (30Mbps down, 5Mbps up!!), the cost is pretty high -- like around $200/month or something like that...

I had Verizon for tv, internet, and phone. The DSL sucked compared to cable. There would be times the modem had to be reset (unplug the modem, wait about a minute, plug it in again). Directtv wasn't that great either. It if rained hard, sometimes the picture would go out. I ended up getting a decent deal because I met a guy who worked for Cablevision while I was waiting for Best Buy to open one day. Pretty much call up Cablevision and ask what they could do for you. They should give you a good deal. They are all fighting to get more customers so they will give you a decent deal. I switched to cable and I am saving about $30 a month, plus I get more reliable service in all 3 areas. If you want, I can send you the email address of the Cablevision guy I talked to. He was part of their sales department. All in all, go with cable and skip dsl and directtv.
