As some of you know I moved into a new home approx. 5 months ago and have been filling the place with furniture, toys, etc.

My wife has been doing a lot of decorating ($$$) and is now ready to buy draperies for the windows. I'm a man of decent knowledge when it comes to certain things, but when I saw what the costs were to put up window treatment I almost fell over. What a racket!

Anyway, does anyone have a contact or know anyone who is good and willing to work with a client (fyi...I pay cash and will gladly pay for good work)? The outfits my wife has been to are pure retail and don't move on price/tax...it's just insane when you look at the numbers.

    I appreciate any help...

    Thanks!

Gotta love house decoration....if it weren't for 5 years of renovations, decorations, etc, I'd have that Mondi by now. Luckily for me, the end is in sight!

I ran into the same thing a couple of years ago...we started with Ethan Allen, I nearly **** a brick at the prices they quoted us....

Go find a fabric store and ask around.....there may even be business cards posted somewhere....you'll probably get great work from a 'home business - weekend-warrior' type at a fraction of the cost....that's what we did and we paid less than 1/2 the EA quoted price.

    Good luck,
    K-

    K,

It's EA who nearly made me crap myself...then Calico Corners, etc.

If anyone has a "guy" please let me know and I'll even cut you a piece of my savings. It's actually THAT MUCH money whereas I will pay a reward... :)

    Eric,

Hope to see you at ROE. I felt the same way. Its really a joke. My first response was...That much money for that little fabric! Here's what I learned. Window treatments are as important as anything else in that room. It really brings the room together. The right fabric makes all the difference. Its very easy to spend thousands, but its not really the place to "skimp". My advise is to hook up with a decorator. They will know what to use to get that right look, and they usually get a discount, which, in my case, I split the discount with the decorator. Also the decorator has the right "eye" for these things. I had a decorator do my city apartment and my Long Island House. It made a huge difference and my window treatments would never of looked like they do if I didn't use a decorator. Some of my windows have corniches, some curtains, some both. Some have the same fabric from one of the chairs in my greatroom. You need someone to tell you what to do. The right decorator will save you money. If the window treatments are not a priority at this point, then I would just get basic shades, and do it right when your ready. If your not doing anything fancy (curtains, corniches etc.), and just want to go with a nice type of shade (bamboo or something similiar) you looking at $450 per window. But now that I know that your windows are not covered, I have to sneak by one night! F-chat would have a whole new meaning!
