So, I am going to sell or trade in our '03 Explorer. I know I will get more by selling, but I envision this as a painful process.

Anyone sold a car person to person and have any insight/advice.

I have one specific question: I have a couple grand to pay off, so I don't have the title in hand. How do I handle selling someone a car without title in hand, or is that just dumb and I should pay off right now to get title (reluctant to do that since I have 0% financing).

    Thanks in advance.

If you don't have the title, what are you going to sign and hand over to the new owner?

I've sold a bunch of cars and as long as you're mostly honest in the ad, have it priced fairly, have it clean and in good condition you shouldn't have too much trouble. Look at ads in your area and see what the prices are for same model/ miles and condition, that's always a good place to start.

Also I've traded cars in to dealers to save taxes on the car I was buying.
