Driving my 360 north on I-280 tonight and some sort of turbo Volkswagon ran up behind me popping his blow-off valve. I'm not really into running down the highway at full bore, so I pull over to the right and let him by. He pulls up right next to me and starts opening it up- some pretty beefy mods to this volks!

I drop down into 4th and gun it (for Tubi-effect only-I wasn't going over 85MPH at any point) and the volks tears off when I back down off the gas.

A bright flash goes off inside the car from the passenger seat, I suppose it was just a camera (he "killed" me, I'm sure it's all over the import turner.net now) and cuts across 4 lanes to take the next exit. He overcooks the turn and pitches the car into the dividing wall at 50+MPH. Spun several times, hitting the wall more than once. Mind you, I'm still traveling on 280 but I can see the carnage unfolding.

So I get to the next exit, turn around and head back to see if anyone got splattered on the highway. Amazingly, there was nothing left except his front bumper and a right mirror at the scene! No wrecked Volks. Just dark tire marks, a huge blue streak of paint on the wall and some small german bolt-on parts. I was back at the accident scene in less than a minute- I doubt he even stopped.

I kind of wish I would have grabbed the mirror- hung it on my wall as an anti-trophy of stupidity.

If I were you I'd hope that kid's parents don't get a hold of the pictures of your car... They could try to claim that you encouraged a race and sue you for the wreck. It would be a longshot, but would be a heck of a headache to deal with.

    +1

This is the perfect reason not to race on the highway. The idiot in the Volks is trying to bait an exotic to race. If either party gets hurt, both are responsible. Several years ago a friend of mine owned a sport bike. He was approched by and baited into racing with a modified honda-type car on the freeway. Of course he blew by the honda. The honda unfortunately tried to catch up and ended up loosing control. Being a responsible type guy, he went back to check. He called an ambulance because two people in the car were hurt.

Guess what happened next. CHP filed charges on both the driver of the honda and my friend. Thousands of dollars and several sleepless nights later he now says he learned his lesson. "Race on the track"

    Regards,

    Stew

LOL, anyone that races "on the track" will tell you it's no way to save money. :D

But yes, any form of "racing" on civilian streets is stupid and dangerous.

Time to check the VW forums for threads like 'F3RRAR1 K177AH Y0!' or 'Waaah- wrecked my baby'.

Was going to cite this very possibility for, at the very least, not going back to the scene.
