First I would like to say I have owned porsches and ferrraris, and I would pick a F430 over a Z06 corvette any day of the week, because I know it is a more refined car. But when you pay 185,000 up to 260,000 dollars for a f430 there should be no questions which is the better, faster and quicker car, when you are comparing it to a ZO6, which only cost 75,000 dollars and is a outstanding car, and its track times are as good are better than the F430. maybe we are getting RIP OFF BY FERRARI!!!!

Not even worth replying to. If I'm following your logic I guess that would mean Rolex is ripping us off since a Timex keeps just as good time ...

For the same reason you could get an S600 designo(leather dash, top quality trim, stictched seats, ventilated seats, almost 500hp, plush carpet) which IMHO is just as nice if not nicer then a bentley arnage when you consider it is $120k+ less.

And a 9 second Suzuki GSXR1000R is only 10K. Depends on your budget and priorities I guess. There is so much more to Ferrari than straight line performance. Try it and you'll see!

Ferrari is ripping us off the same way a fine french resturant is, McDonalds will give you food for a fraction of the cost and you can eat it in your Z06 too!! You must remember what website your on........

Erik I had a feeling you would say that, but for the same reason you would stick with the bentley over a MB I will stick with the ferrari over the vette. A corvette is still a chevy and has the same taillights as a $15,000 cobalt coupe does. Plus it will be worth way less then sticker in 2 years! I hope you got where I was going with this Erik?

I was at a local show last week and was standing next to a friend of mine that is a sales consultant for Niello Porsche. He was on babysitting duty for the only Carrera Gt there. A younger guy (25?) walked up with a few friends looked at the sticker on the car $449000 and said "Man I could buy a Vette send it to Ligenfelter and have enough power to stomp this thing for way less money!" My friends reply was "Yes but at the end of the day, you still have a Chevy." I have heard similar debates my entire car guy life. The fact of the matter is nobody buys a Ferrari for its value, they buy it because it is an experience, a way of life so to speak. If this doesn't make sense to you, get out of F-chat. Go buy a Corvette and be the Camry of the sports car world Valueman.

Hell for $125,000 you can get to top fuel dragster with a 1/4mile in the low 4 second range. You could get a gokart that corners like a slotcar for 5,000.

Money, money, money, money, is not everything in life, money its just a way to have what you like and live as more as easy you can. Money will must not be the purpose of our living, so who cares if ferrari is expensive or vette's aren't, imagine if the f430 had 75000 $ new, we probably won't be here wright know and discuss about ferraris, all the image and the fantasy will be lost.......

This is called 'the power of branding' you have a strong brand then you can command the price regardless of what your nearest competitor is charging!

The question is a fair one but the context is not!

I agree with other posters that the purchase price is a feature of the brand and whether you pay or not depends upon your perception of 'value'.

Ferrari set a price based on their view of their market and with a 2 or 3 year waiting list in most countries, one could argue that they are charging less than they could.

The real rip off comes later, when you buy common parts marked up 3 or 4 fold because they come in a little box with a prancing horse; the dealer dismisses any liability for a fault you would not accept on a Ford and does unneccesary work at high cost or a book or T shirt carries a heavy premium over simiilar items from other marques.

Ferrari have every right to charge what the market will bear for new cars, they don't have a right to apply unreasonable conditions of purchase or to turn a blind eye to the rip offs perpetrated by more than a few of their dealers.

Oh, and by the way, Rolex salesmen can also be pretty patronising if you happen to suggest that their product is not capable of keeping good time. But Sir, perhaps you don't understand, it is an ''Officially Certified Superlative Chronometer'
