I received a speeding citation in Arkansas a few weeks back and wondered if anyone here has ever had an out of state ticket and if it affected your Texas driving record.

The police officer that gave me the citation said that they do not offer deferred adjudication or defensive driving in their county.

Any advice or insight would be greaty appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Nicola Cappelletti

I just ordered a copy of my driving record and the only items on it are two speeding tickets from Nebraska. One was in 2004 and the other in 2001.

However the states make their own choices on reporting, so yours of course will depend on what agreement Arkansas has with Texas.

    I wish you luck.

Nicola - just checked with an insurance agent friend of mine here locally. He's never seen an out of state ticket or accident show up on hte DMV reports that they use. That doesn't mean it is impossible for it to show up, but he's never seen one.

He're the page that explains the Texas point system. Until a few years ago, you could pretty much ignore out of state tickets. Now, Texas is part of a data-sharing program with other states and can dock your license for violations in other states:

    http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/director_staff/public_information/pr081903c.htm

    Drivers License Compact (source http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/dlc.html)

The Drivers License Compact require member states to report tickets received by motorist to the state where they received a license to drive so as to receive points and get an insurance hike. Also when a state suspends the license of a driver who is from out-of-state, the state where the motorist received a license to drive will also suspend their license as well.

    Thanks for the info Tillman.

I called the county clerk and asked what my options are and she said to call the DA of that county and ask for a civil penality(plead guilty/no contest?) and that it would not go on my record. What's weird is the police officer said they do not have any probation or defensive driving programs in their county. But oh well I just have to have $140 to them by July 7th and it's taken care of without it being on my record.
