Ok guys I headed to Seattle this week to Cats Exotics to purchase myself a Stradle to go with my 430 Spider. Beautiful car and I was ready to buy but over in the corner a gorgeous English lass winked and I walked over to see her. 1968 restored 1.5 series 4.2 L D type in flawless condition. Here are some pics. I saved myself a 110 grand but I suspect I'll burn some of that up in maintenance. Who cares? I think I have the perfect stablemate to my modern 430 Ferrari - what do you guys think? Any advice? (Be gentle )... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you ! Here is one more.... I sure hope I spend more time driving her than working on her! Image Unavailable, Please Login

+1 on XKE-data and also hit Jag-Lovers.org. I think I recall seeing that XKE on e-bay! Nice one. Tripple carbs if you want a little more speed, watch for drips - rear main seal is an engine out fix...if you are doing that, might as well replace the clutch as well. I went to a local JCNA event yesterday - guy there had a '67 that he put 240k miles on it with no problems! With the XKE it seems you either get a great one, or one you regret, but rarely is it in between.

wonderful ...even Enzo Ferrari described the e-type as the most beautiful car design i'd check though the local jaguar club about who you best local mechanic is for series e-types ....with good maintenance they can be very reliable
one of the best buy you could do, love the model, love the colourcombination, very nice decision ... best of luck !
Great purchase. I think the S2s are a bargain, especially the FHCs. I've long wanted a 328...but ended up with this, looks like a few of us think alike! Enjoy her - it's absolutely beautiful you will love it! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great purchase! If the car is sorted, and it looks like it from the photos, you should be fine. And besides, just about anything that needs replacing is an easy bolt on component. Take the little screw caps off the carbs and make keep them topped off with ATF fluid.
If it were mine...only on the personal side..I would do 3 things .. 1..Replace Bonnet with series one covered headlight unit. 2.. Replace 2 strombergs with 3 Webers. 3 Either replace or have a shop crank up your front torsion bars as they look sagging.and be sure to have 6 Koni original spec shocks installed and turn them up Firm.. Then you have a much more Desirable piece of car.. save the bonnet in case a purist wants it when you sell it..same with carbs... my feeling is the 68 will not be affected by these changes. numerous British car sites sell aluminum bonnets ..somewhere around $6,000.00 Even with these changes , you should still be ahead in price of a series one equivelent
This sounds very appealing to me. I love the S1 cars, but it is hard to justify the price difference in between them and a comparable S2. But if (when) I get an E-Type, I feel like I will just HAVE to have covered lights and 3 carbs. I did not know replacement bonnets were available that easily....that definitely makes the S2 cars more appealing to me. Here is my question: What will the power difference be in a stock S1 4.2 engine and a S2 engine with the triple Weber/SU modification? I seem to recall there are other internal differences in the S1 and S2 engines, perhaps lower compression, cams, or timing differences?
Would definitely do the S1-style bonnet, but pass on the Webers. The upgrade in performance doesn't matter much in a car like this IMHO. It's happy loping along. However, the guy that worked on my car races an E, and it's an awesome machine!
