Hi does anyone know where the out side temp sensor is locator I know it is in the front bulkhead somewhere have removed the carpet but cant see it. I have this E2 error have cleaned the connection so looking for sensor to change out but cannot find it a photo would be great. Thanks.
For the HVAC (Figure 6 in the Workshop Manual Wiring Diagrams). Feeds directly into the HVAC ECU (front luggage compartment). Do you have a left hand drive car? On right hand drive cars, I believe the sensor is on the right hand side.
See the picture. First check and clean the pins in the sensor connector. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It seems that some cars have an outside air temperature sensor on the air intake (in the forward luggage compartment) and others have an outside air temperature sensor on the underside of one of the mirrors. That plug may not be present on the mirror type, Miroljub. I don't know if this is an early car Vs a late car thing. I don't recall seeing an intake sensor on my '98 spider. The workshop manual shows both variations in the description section, but only the mirror version in the wiring diagram section. Cheers Ian.
I believe it has two. We discussed this a few months back. The one on. The mirror that Dave is refering is for the interior cabin as is the one that miro refers too in the hvac air intake. I think that was the consensus.
I think we may have to revisit this, Grant. The WSM wiring diagram only shows 4 temperature sensors. Also, one of the component diagrams in the WSM shows an air intake sensor and no mirror sensor. Another shows no intake sensor, but does show a mirror sensor. Why would the mirror sensor be sticking out into the airstream if it was an interior cabin sensor? Or have I misunderstood you. It was my understanding that the interior cabin sensor was the one behind the dashboard grille at knee height (with a small fan for sucking the air in from the cabin). Ricambi labels it as a inner temperature sensor (Item 19): https://www.ricambiamerica.com/car-diagrams/ferrari/v6-v8/355-group/f355-m5-2-1996/instruments.html Hope we can sort this out Cheers Ian.
Sorry for the confusion. The mirror sensor is for outside air temp so the computer for the inside controller knows what the outside air temp is. It explains why in the wsm. It uses this fir various functions when in auto cabin temp mode, such as switching to defrost etc. The temp sensor in the bonnent afaik is to monitor the actual temperature the system is getting so it can blend outside, inside, heat, or cold to maintain the temp you set for the cabin. Thats my understanding of the system. I would feel more comfortable if Dave or someone with more exp than myself confirmed this but I think thats how it works. Tha being said in my 99 I did not see it mention the sensor in the bonnet.
After rereading my wsm it appears there is only 1 sensor depending on your year. For certain my 99 is in the mirror as is Daves 98. The 94s definately it is in the bonnet as shown above. Do not know when it changed. My above post is wrong. Both sensors are used for outside air temp only and depending on your car it will have 1 or the other. My guess is they changed it to get a more accurate outside air temperature.
I understood that Senna was talking about 348 so the info I posted is about the 348's system. I don't think there was a change in the location of this sensor on 348s.
Yes that is correct it is a 348GTS 94 model RHD I have cleaned all connections so will change the sensor apart from not having temp reading everything is working so it is just annoying to see E2 instead of temp reading. Where the best place to get the sensor. Thanks
My parents have an early '97 Spider (ass'y # 23275, July 1996 build), and there is a sensor on the mirror.
355s have 4 temp sensors. 1) Outside air temp in mirror. 2) HVAC inlet air temp. Located in the inlet of the HVAC unit. This is not outside air temp as the source of the inlet air depends on the position of the recirculation flap. 3) Treated air temp which is the temp of the air exiting the HVAC unit to the cabin. 4) Cabin air temp sensor located in the dash. This is consistent with my 95 355.
Sorry to digress from the original post (348-related) If there are both mirror and inlet sensors on the F355, then I count 5 sensors (as per the diagrams on the Ricambi site): Outside Air Temperature sensor P/N 63893600 (mirror) Inside Air Temperature sensor P/N 63934200 (dashboard at knee level) Treated Air Temperature sensor P/N 63307000 Evaporator Temperature sensor P/N 62341000 Intake Air Temperature sensor P/N 63306900 (front luggage compartment intake) However, only 4 sensors are shown in the wiring diagram.... circled in the following diagram. F355 Cooling Diagram How do we resolve this disparity? So (John) you have both an inlet temp sensor and a mirror sensor on your '95 model? Is the inlet temp sensor in the same position as in Miroljub's picture? (is that a 348, Miroljub?).
What I am saying is that there are only 4 sesnors. There is no Intake Air Temperature sensor (P/N 63306900) in the front luggage compartment intake. My 95 has only the 4 I noted. Or as you have listed: Outside Air Temperature sensor P/N 63893600 (mirror) Inside Air Temperature sensor P/N 63934200 (dashboard at knee level) Treated Air Temperature sensor P/N 63307000 Evaporator Temperature sensor P/N 62341000 It maybe that the missing sensor is only on early 355s or left over from the 348 setup. I think the way to interpreted the Ricambi diagram is that you have either the mirror sensor or the 63306900 sensor under the hood, but not both.
Part number ending in 6900 exists for 94 not sure about 95. Obviously Johns 95 does not have it but I have seen pics of it online and I also see it in the wsm 94 edition. Your post above John is not correct for all 355s but without more input not sure when it changed.
*For some reason, the workshop manual calls this an outside air temperature sensor (Fig. 1), even though the flapper door may stop the outside air reaching the sensor. So we are all in agreement (for the F355)? Unfortunately, I don't have any wiring information for the '94 car, so I can't add it to my diagram, but I've added a note to make people aware that there may be differences: Fig 6 F355 HVAC Wiring Diagram Cheers
