I made the difficult decision to trade my beloved '04 360 Spider for an '09 Scud. Wow what a difference! I have one question that you guys may be able to help on. The window sticker shows a $13,491 option called "special features". I asked the dealer and they said they have not been able to figure it out, but they have a hypothesis. I wanted to see if you guys agree or have any ideas. The paint is argent nurburgring (silver). The window sticker shows color at the top as "silver / extra". The guy at the dealer believes the special feature is a special clear coat due to the hand painted stripe. He said most ferraris have orange peel in the paint and if you look along the paint you can see some waves. I noticed it on their 599, another 430 and on my last Maserati qp painted by Ferrari; however, he thought given the silver paint and the hand painted stripe that the orange peel wave would distort the stripe. In order to eliminate that a special clear coat would need to be applied. Now keep in mind my salesman is not an ordinary salesman, but a former Ferrari tech. What do you think? Other ideas on what it could be? Also, any ideas on how I could find out. The build sheet also has it as special features code spec. Would the original dealer FM San Diego have those records and shar with me? Thanks in advance for your ideas. Posting pix of both cars and window sticker

I have never seen a scud with a painted stripe, can you post a close up? (very cool)

As for the regular sticker stripes I have not seen any clear coated, but could just be dead wrong.

I think the special feature was an extra $13,491 of profit to move one spot forward in line or get the car 3 days sooner.

I know that car pretty well...get the build sheet from any ferrari dealer service department. I spent some time trying to reconcile the options on the window sticker to the build sheet to the phsyical car and its nearly impossible to figure it all out. IIRC that is one of the window sticker's that doesn't even add down properly?

Anyways, as best I could tell the double italian flag strip accounted for the majority of the options lumped into special features. (there is a total of nearly $16k in the sticker for the double stripe!)

That scud seems in nice shape and has been "well priced" for a long, long time due solely to the color/stripes (I like the color fwiw). Congrats on the new ride!

EDIT: Yup, I have the spreadsheet I created back when I was shopping the car to attempt to reconcile the options...pm me your email address and I'll send it to you.

I just came across this (old) website page...

    http://www.sandiegoprestige.com/rent/ferrari/f-430/scuderia.html

...and was wondering if this was your car. This outfit operates out of San Diego / La Jolla, and I think you mentioned your car was originally sold out of FM San Diego. Note: I'm pretty sure your car wasn't part of their rental fleet -- probably just took pics of it -- since their add says the color of their rental Scuderia is red/black.

    Cheers,

    DL

It sure looks like it. I agree with your comment about the red/black but that could also be wrong. After reviewing the carfax and the autocheck there is only one owner in San Diego and I actually know who that is. The only way it could have been a rental was if the previous owner kept it in his name and subleased or loaned it to this firm. I think that's remote due to liability issues but it could have happened. Also, autocheck could be wrong but then they are subject to a buyback. I have a call in to the company to see if they can shed some light on it.
