I just went to turn it off and I screw it all the way down (yes the right direction) and the water is still coming out about 3/4 full pressure, any idea ??? can I adjust it with the screw in the handle ?? be right back,
Pictures and everything. http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/remodeling/article/0,1797,HGTV_3659_2119253,00.html Tools: screwdriver adjustable wrench pipe wrench adjustable pliers plumber's tape stiff-bristled brush new spigot Steps: 1. First locate the main water shutoff valve and turn off the water. Size the adjustable wrench to fit snugly against the water shutoff valve, then turn it 90-degrees by inserting a screwdriver through the hole in the handle of the wrench (figure A). 2. Open the spigot and allow the water to drain. 3. Now remove the defective spigot. Grasp the pipe below the spigot tightly with adjustable pliers. Tighten the pipe wrench around the body of the spigot and twist it off (figure B). 4. Clean the pipe threads with a brush (figure C). 5. Wrap the pipe threads with plumber's tape, starting at the base and working up (figure D). 6. Install the new spigot and tighten by hand. Once you cannot tighten by hand anymore, wrap the new spigot with a towel to protect it and tighten fully using adjustable pliers (figure E)
1. do you have an adjustable nozzle /spray gun you can attach to the end of the hose (thus shutting off the water)? 2. Is the valve turning with the handle? handle / valve head may be stripped...
I just attched the spray nozzle. (good call) yes, I can feel the valve closeing it just feels like the handle runs out of threads before the valve is closed (make sense)
You're screwed. You need to buy a new house. Well, you could call a plumber. In the mean time if you don't want to shut off the water to your whole house put a spray nozzle (or something else which has a cut off valve) on the end of the hose. If you don't have that then kink the hose and wrap it so it stays kinked until you can fix it.
it looks like there's nut on the stem handle, that if i could get it loose, i could get to the rubber plunger, but I can't get the nut off.
Wow coming out of the brick... that sucks. Simple solution, screw another hose bib (the proper term for the valve) onto the one that is already there. It will look kinda lame but solve the problem and you can still use the hose.
Is this the nut I need to take off, (the one just over "MEXICO") ? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Turn water off at the street; Then, with adj. pliers, crescent wrench, or pipe wrench unscrew and remove the valve stem from the body; your washer is probably kaput, so take the assembly to the closest hardware store and ask them what you need. But, BEFORE you do that, take a moment and peek down into the valve body and examine the washer seat for nicks/damage. If badly damaged, you will either need to grind the seat (spl. tool), or replace the whole spigot or, just pull the whole danged thing off and replace it regardless; or, call a plumber. Good luck p.s. while this is a pretty easy fix, don't be ashamed to call the plumber.
If you're going to rebuild the faucet then yet. That will unscrew all the guts and you can see whats going on.
Sounds like a typical new house bug. Hopefully, your builder will be able to get someone out there right away. There is a possibility that the faucet may be soldered on instead of screwed on. If so, be careful not to put too much strain on it as you don't want to cause a break beteen the faucet and the pipe. You don't want to lose the ability to turn the water on to the rest of the house which you now can do because you are controling the leak by the nozzle on the hose.
any suggestions on how to get it lose, the cheap piece of crap is just rounding off the corners of the nut when I try to break it free !!
There should be a cut off on the inside of the home if you are in a frost area. Can you see the exposed pipe in the basement?
ok, guys I finally got the nut off, then a quick trip to HomeyO Depot and I'm back in business, THANKS TO ALL !!!!!!!
Congratulations, you he-man, you. You can now officially strut around the castle. Be sure and tell the story of how you fixed the problem, don't be afraid to embellish it a little with each telling and whatever you do, don't mention you had to consult us experts.
