anyone have a factory installed or aftermarket electric outside mirror on the right side? my 81 came with a mirror but it's not wired and of course there's no switch (i didn't see one shown shown in the owner's manual). if anyone has installed a switch i'd love to see what you did. thanks, jon s.

I'm not sure what year the electric mirrors were introduced....it seems it was later than '81.

i'm sure it was an add on but since the wiring and motor are already there i thought i might put a switch on it. did the qv's have them? i'll look in my copy of original ferrari v8 and see if i can find an interior shot that shows a picture. also if anyone has a qv owner's manual, please look and let me know. thanks, jon s.

Same - 1985 BMW 535i (the mirror switch is a BMW part which was on 5-series BMWs from '82-'87... On ebay you can buy one for $10 for a BMW or pay $100 for one for a ferrari (same part).

    '85 QV - same.

I'd like to swap out the clunky looking rectangular mirrors for the Vitoli Californias, but seems there is a question as to whether the mounting holtes/location is compatible.
Not to hijack the thread, but have any QVers put on Calis?
    cheers

My car has the Euro mirrors installed (not power mirrors). I dont know if this is what you mean by the Cali's, but I can confirm that the mounting holes are different. Before I picked my car up last week the guys at Motorcars did some touch up paint to make it less obvious though, but you can still tell as the mark is still there. But cosmetically, I do like them more than the original QV mirrors.

I have the originals in a box that came with the car.

The first photo is the early 308 Vitaloni "California" type mirror I'd like to put on (with convex glass, ideally).

Dino: make me an offer I can't refuse :)

I don't think the newer, larger, squarer mirrors would actually add much functionality over the sleeker Cali model.
Added $1.99 stick-on convex jobbies immediately, like all my other cars, to make them actually useful.

Since you have them in hand you understand the minimal adjustment of the Californas......installation placement is tailored to the driver as they only go up/down...a convex RH one would be an improvement!

I have some small rectangle Vitalonis that have a greater adjustement because of ball joints and a bellows at the base.....I don't know if they have a name, still manual adjustment...

thank you all. the bmw switch is a great idea. i looked in the 308/328 chapter of original ferrari v8 today - always amazed at the depth of his research. big tex was right the us version qv's had the square mirrors like mine and as shown on the owner's manual above the switch is on the driver side arm rest. the local glass shop made a convex replacement piece for the right side mirror; much better than the stick on convex piece i was using. it actually doesn't need to be adjustable with this improvement. jon s.

Interesting. I know for my E39 BMW people have installed the Euro glass which is convex on the outer 1/2 or so (yet another example of the US getting dumbed down, and in the case of flat rearview mirrors less safe equipment) but never thought to check glass shops to make them custom.
    pics? cost?
I don't really have a problem with the cheap little stick-ons, they work great IMO for checking the 'blind spots' but do look a bit out of place so a properly fitting full size convex mirror for a reasonable amount of cash is tempting.
    thanks
