I just ran across this on ebay and wanted to give a heads up to fellow collectors.
It is Item number 170376707478. The currant bid is $30,100 with 8 days left to go. There are already 13 bids which is very aggressive for 8 days left.
A mostly original car that has had a re-spray some years back. The history looks very complete. I would prefer drums in the rear and disc in front, as well as roll up windows.
but this is very disireable. Love th original trunk and tool kit. The plug wires need to go but everything else looks pretty tidy including the cheney hose clamps.
If you ever wanted a collectable car these early 3500's are it.

My guess is this car will bring close to 100K if not more.
Nice color combination, It is very tempting.
I have no financial interest in this car. I do not know the owner, I just continue to have an appreciation of these early cars, after owning and restoring a number of them of them.
    Ciao,
    FGM

Looks very good. The house in the background doesn't look too shabby either.

A very nice example. Anyone would be proud to own this car. INMHO the value is there and there should be some meat left one the table.

    Ciao!

Any update on this car? The auction ended without reaching reserve price.

It's still for sale, or it was last week. It's a very honest car.

What would be a fair price for that car?

The highest bid on Ebay was $71K. I saw this car up close a couple of weeks ago at the Palos Verdes Concours south of Los Angeles and it is a beautiful car. It's not an immaculate 100 point car, but a very clean driver with some nice original features and no butchery. I happened to be standing there when the judges were looking at it - everything worked and the engine sounded good with no smoke.

Forget price lists and "expert opinions" on car prices. The important thing is how much it is worth to YOU. If you and the seller come to an agreement all we will be able to conclude is that on that day and for this car, it was a fair price. It says nothing about the price of another 3500GT that may also become available. With just 15 minutes of research you probably already concluded that the ebay reserve price was somewhere in the range of what these cars have sold in the past. Some for more, some for less. To calculate an exact market price is impossible as it all depends on who is in the market at that time and how many cars are available. In other words, if you are the only guy that is serious about buying this car your chances at getting a lower price are much better than if 3 other guys also want it. Remember this can all change quickly, next week a couple of people may wake up with an itch for a 3500GT, or the people interested today may loose interest.

It sounds like this is a good honest car and if you are in the market for a 3500GT it probably deserves a serious consideration. Nice 3500GT do not come up for sale often. I do not know the car, the seller, and he is not paying me a commision :)

The rest is up to you ... but do tell us if you get it.

In Europe there are several restored 3500GT on sale at the various traders. They are all in the 80-140 k€ range. To get the price in US$ you have to multiply by 1.36 and you get 110-190 k$. In general, the prices in the US are in the last few years about 20% lower than the prices in Europe, except UK. So my guess is that a well restored 3500GT will be offered in the USA by trade for about 110-190 k$. From private probably 20% lower.

The car offered here is not restored. For most people this means it is worth quite a lot less. I am not among those people: to me a car in really good mechanical condition but with original peint and interior without any botches is worth as much or more than a restored car. I am not in a position to buy this 3500GT, but I would say if an amateur of original cars can get it at 110k$, he should be very happy!

Todays market $65,000-$70,000 car. I saw this car many years ago. Very nice car then. Nothing is moving right now in the car market. Lots of cool stuff coming up for sale in the next 6 months - 1 year.

I have to agree with Ivan's opinon on this 3500. The gent. who quoted $ 35K knows nothing of the market. If this 3500 or any 3500 GT in similar condition could be had for 35K I would buy every one for sale! Seriously, I would!! I have seen this car and over 75 detailed photos of this car. Knowing enough to be dangerous, I would say this car is worth what the market will pay. My estimation is 75K to 85K. I would advise the seller to HOLD this car and NOT sell it today or in 6 months. The fact is that these cars are not going to drop in value in the next 6 mo. or 6 years. If you are waiting for a 25% depreciation, from the current asking price,...... you missed the boat. Having said that, come to the table with cash and you would have a very honest and decent car at a realistic price for both you and seller. The fact is there ARE NOT MANY 3500 GTs in the world today that are in the honest condition this car is in. It is my humble opinion!

To me 1950s Italian cars of this calibre are like beach front property.
The longer you wait the more they appreciate.

I'm in the middle of restoring my 1959 3500GT. The body should be mostly done in 2-3 weeks, then the motor and other mechanicals can go in before painting and interior work.

Then it will be occassional driving to keep her running and watch the prices climb... :)
