I overfilled my 348GTB last week then realised that the air intake had sucked in oil thru the air intake drain return pipe. I cleaned out the air intakes of oil and the air filter box but at the weekend I have to clean out the manifold - I think so oil is still lodge up ther because I am still burning oil. Is there anywhere else I need to pay attention ??????? Could I have done any lasting damage ???? Laurence
If you overfiled that bad several things could go wrong. You should ask this question in the Technical section, there is people more into mechanics than here. However the worst thing that can go wrong if you overfill the engine with oil is that the oil preasure will rise, and if it is too high it could blow the valve guides letting oil in the combustion chamber. If you noticed that you overfiled your engine quite rapidly, it is unlikely this would happen. I guess you already remove the exces of oil, right? - Julio
If the oil level in the pan gets up to the crankshaft, you risk whipping your oil into a froth. Causing significant reduction in effectiveness. So ... yes you COULD have done lasting damage, but let's hope it was not too bad.
