I haven't seen the show you're talking about, but Recaro makes racing look child seats. Graco also has a few that look racy with a waffle fabric. Britax is a brand that has been mentioned a few times for good fits in sportscars.

Anyone been watching that show lately? I think I'm gonna be sick:

They take classic barn finds and pimp them out with about a ton of bondo, tossing away the original badges, engines, etc.

    Gak.

If they'd done that to a (Pontiac) GTO of mine, I'd have been really, really miffed. I'd think that pimped changling has far lower value than a ready-for-restoration original classic.

The owner's comment: "It doesn't look real". My comment: "It isn't, anymore." Heck, they didn't even straighten the frame.

And seeing how they build those "custom rims", I wouldn't drive that car.
(Probably, I couldn't -- without outside mirrors, you probably can't even get it registered.)

What a horrible way to hack up a classic. :(

I usually like what they do, its just when they put a big stereo system in the trunk that it ruins it for me. You do have to remember, they only have a week to do everything. Its not like they have months and months of time to do it in.

Cute seats, but what about the Britney controversy about front vs rear facing seats?

So chop up cars that can be improved in a week. Doing a rush job on an unmodified original classic ruins it.

They should stick to pimping out type-Rs, Scions, Camrys, or even maybe a hybrid. And that would give them less rust to have to chop and bondo.

If they keep going after classics, pretty soon an owner is going to get really steamed at the results.

Sure, it's shiny. But it's not even remotely "correct". The Pontiac GTO episode was particularly telling; they didn't reshape much, but the "before" and "after" pix at the end showed just how much of the original detail had been lost: missing badges, missing mirrors, incorrect interior details, the aftermarket gauges replaced with a boom box stereo head, etc.

Before, it was a muscle car with track history. After, it was a lobby display.

If that "designer" wants to be a sculptor in clay, he should stick to the art department, and leave the classic car business to someone who respects heritage. Any concours judge would push one of those chop jobs off a pier. Hacking up classics is just dodging the California testing standards for new custom cars.

What are you talking about "pimping out the rides"? They are not "pimping" out anything. Foose does a great job. I may not agree with all the stuff like removing mirrors and such but they almost always come out great! Plus keep to the original theme of the car. The bondo is used to help smooth out the imperfections, not to fill up holes or dents.

Also RestoMods are a new theme to do to some classics. Its a great way to update a classic with modern conveniences.

Yeah, normally I like Foose's stuff, but I have a problem with them stuffing crate motors in as part of the deal. A while ago they did a '71 Cutlass convertible. The car was straight, nice starting point for a restoration. I liked what they did with the paint & interior, but the crappy part was they stuffed a crate Chevy 350, instead of doing a nice rebuild on the Olds Rocket 350. Probably doesn't mean too much to you unless you're a GM guy, but if you're a real fan of Oldsmobiles (like this guy seemed to be, the car was his father's (Oldsmobile ;) ), you know that from that era, a Chevy 350 is not an Olds 350 is not a Buick 350. They were all different engines, and an Olds guy will tell you all day about why the Rocket 350 is better than a Chevy.

Best part was when they had to spend a bunch of extra time sorting out the wiring harness because they had used the Chevy engine. Duh! Should have found an Olds guy to do a rebuild, or at least used an Olds 455.

At least when they did a Firebird they used a Pontiac motor, even though it was ridiculously big for the car. 500 cubes and change.
