It was inevitable that I would get trapped in a construction traffic jam. They pop up unexpectedly and I got caught in a big one today. A flag man letting alternate rows of traffic go around a big right lane closure (about 300 yards of it). A very long line of cars sitting idling for at least 5 - 10 minutes, only creeping along 100 yards of so per flag man allowance.

My 360's temp gauge indicator normally sits to drivers left of the gauge's top dead center which says 210. I think in normal driving it usually sits at about where 180 would be. The oil temperature rarely rises much, maybe to about a third of it's range.

So sitting in this traffic jam, I noted the temp rise to top dead center (210) and it stayed there. The oil temp didn't rise much. The car showed no detectable signs of overheating although I was scared to death of seeing some light go off. The longest I sat in one place was about five minutes and the ambient temp outside was only about 70 degrees F.

Any strategy for dealing with this kind of thing? When does an "overheating" light go on if it goes on and what does the indicator say? Turn the ignition off and on?

I suspect you are miles away from an overheat and if you'd bother to read your owners manual it'd probably say worry at about 250 - my guess is tdc is about where the fans kick in

Back in the day...we were told to put the heat on.

The hot water traversing into the heat exchanger would help cool the engine.

Made it a bit uncomfortable in the summer.

    Good to notice the unusual.

But I'd look for a place to park at 230. That is low enough not to damage anything but higher than it will ever get if nothing is wrong.

And read the book. Thats why Ferrari went to the trouble to give you one. It is a better source of information than the internet will ever be.

All cars stay hotter when idling for long. 210 is not overheating.

Driver's side radiator fan comes on at 207F so if you're at 210 in traffic you're golden. A good thing to check though, is if the pressure cap expelled any coolant at these temps. If so, time to replace.

    Cheers, Andy

Don't worry about it. It's normal.
And don't turn on the heater - on a 360 you have to turn on the AC in order for the heater to work. The combination of running the heater and AC probably won't do a thing to cool the motor.

My 360 runs strangely cold. Highway driving around 70mph the coolant temp is reading only around 160F while outside temp being around 65-70F. Even at the suburb slow traffic light to another type of driving wont bring the needle even nearby the "middle" area.

And the oil is even colder, just a notch - maybe two up from the left side of the oil temp gauge.

    Should I be worried?

Reading the Ferrari manual is like reading War and Peace translated by Italians. Nice to have this forum for quick, specific info from real owners/drivers.

Mine runs surprisingly cold too...by the gauges. By the bonnet vents, I can tell there's a good amount of heat in there after a drive ;)

Maybe the coolant thermostat is acting up. Not properly opening/closing when supposed to.
