If the only reports of suicide are coming from the National Enquirer, I would not believe it until I hear from a more credible source, as they are known for spewing out BS.
It was most likely a medical problem that these magazines are taking advantage of to make a good story

I'm pretty sure it's true. They tried to spin it that it was exhaustion etc. but now he's asking for his privacy. "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time,' he says in a statement." His brother, publicists and authorities are clamming up. Whatever, it sounds like the guy needs some help and hope he takes it.

it never ceases to amaze me that people with these fairy tale lives (adoring fans, more money than 99% of the world) can do something so stupid. how hard can their life really be? sports stars like Vick, movie stars stealing things, rock stars constantly on drugs. i just don't get it. i really hope he's able to get the help he needs. its a tragedy when ANYONE's life gets to that point no matter what their reasons are.

People are people. Having material possessions or professional 'success' does not equal happiness or mental stability.

He got sick of looking at his nose. :p

Just kidding! I hope it's a farce. I don't trust National Enquirer as a credible source for news. If it did happen, I hope he's making a quick recovery and getting help. His movies are too good. :)

I hope what you are trying to say is that maybe he is suicidal so he is on antidepressants. Otherwise your conclusion is knee-jerk at best, as the
benefits of antidepressants outweigh any negatives to a huge degree.

Whats really sad are the people who say "I dont get it - he is rich, famous, etc" - like those are prerequisites to being happy.

Money will never make you happy. Neither will material posessions. Its so sad that some folks think these will bring happiness.

It's really sad to hear, especially from someone that comes off as a genuinely great/happy guy. He's funny as hell and I sure hope he gets better soon because his movies are too good.

money can't buy happiness, but it can certainly purchase enough toys to keep you occupied... or more accurately, with that kind of money, surely you can afford to seek out whatever will supply true happiness since you don't have to waste your time making ends meet.

You don't know very much about antidepressant side effects.

"However, in addition to other dangers, there is also an established direct link between suicide and violent behaviour and the use of SSRIs.(selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors)"

    Side Effects of Antidepressants: http://www.clinical-depression.co.uk/Treating_Depression/side_effects.htm

Many comedian/comedic actors use comedy to hide their pain and can be very close to the edge. A guy like Jim Carrey is an example. Not sure if it's the case with Owen but sounds like he could be manic.

You may think so, but it doesnt work that way.

You see, happiness is a state of mind, and real happiness comes from being healthy, having a good wife and children, etc. Thats the meaning of life.

Some people I think are (mentally) damaged to where they cant apprecaite it, or it takes them longer to appreciate it. Thats sad. But its equally sad that so many people think that if they had X (where X is usually money, fame, or power) they would be happy. Its just not so - not even a little.

If there is a link between antidepressents and increased suicide (AFAIK, only suggested in teens, not adults), it is very small and highly debatable. It is a popular subject in the lay press ( especially the herbal industry) but is not well supported in the professional literature.

To suggest that a depressed person tries to commit suicide because of their meds is a very popular view now-a-days by non-professionals, even though it has little scientific basis.

It reminds me of the folks that say they won't use seat belts for fear it will trap them in a car. A real possibility, but the chance of the belts saving a life is magnitudes greater, just like the anti-depressents.

It wouldn't be because anti-depressant meds are big biz and anything that professionally discredits them would be bad for the bottom line, now would it? Regardless, I'd lay odds the guy's been on anti-depressants for a while, just like most of LA/Hollyweird. So, for him to make a suicide attempt might suggest that there's some additional chemical imbalance going on that led him to suicidal thoughts and an actual attempt. I'm not his doctor but it just seems strange that this guy(who appeared to have everything going for him) was in a frame of mind to take these drastic measures.

Oh! my life is so terrible, I have and make millions of dollars and I have a wonderful house and friends, I think I will Kill myself. Give me a break! What a loser. I for one will boycott him from now on. There are kids out there starving and familys will major medical issues out there that live from day to day. Maybe Mister Hollywood should count his blessing and be a man. Big Boo Hoo! Society does not need a role model like him.
