I must say, the cars looks have grown on me more and more. I am very close to making an order on one very soon with a member/dealer here. What are your thoughts on the car, its handling, build quality, power ect.... The only Ferrari I have ever owned or driven is the Challenge Stradale....I know, there is no comparison between the two. Any owners thoughts and input are appreciated. What colors have you guys been buying? Interior and Exterior? (just seeing what the market has preferenced....some colors over others?) Some of the darker colors really make the lines of the car....but also Grigio Silver is just Awesome. Looking forward to the input! Thanks: B
This one is Blu Mirabeau. I really like it... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'd be willing to bet that if you're patient and can wait another 6-12 months, you'll be able to buy a low-mileage 612 for 75 cents-on-the-dollar. I just bought a 2005 575M, only registered for 6 months, for 70 cents-on-the-dollar. Plus, prices on 4 seaters generally drop much faster. Take the 456GT as an example. There is one listed in the LA area that is brand new (2003) with only 150 miles on it, listed at about 65 cents-on-the-dollar. Some poor guy paid nearly $250k for a car that today sells for $150k. Just my two cents ...
You also asked about colors. I don't see what difference it make if I'm an owner or not when talking about colors. FWIW, I know more about these cars than some owners do. LOL Sorry for trying to help by showing you one of the newest colors....
Wow........Does someone have an issue? I think some of you guys take things the wayyyy wrong way! I was also looking to see if you had more input if you were an owner as well. Deep Breath! Thanks anyway though
You can check my profile and see that I'm not an owner. Issues? You don't want me to go into that...LOL... I was just showing you some photos of a 612 that I saw this weekend. A simple thanks wold have been good. There is at least one owner here, I'm sure he will chime in.
I'm an owner and driving it to work is like receiving a birthday gift every day. The color is Blu Mirabeau. It's extremely powerful, although at very low revs it has less of an immediate acceleration than the Mercedes 55 AMG engine. The ride and overall driving experience are absurdly comfortable for a car this quick. I discovered the F1 transmission, and now I don't think I could ever go back to stick or automatic. But what really mesmerizes me is the handling: it is so sensitive, so well planted, that it turns better than a car half its weight. Fit for city driving, fit for little country roads, for overtaking on A roads, for long cruises on speed-restricted motorways, and for speeding on the Autobahn. It took me about 5 months and 5,000 miles to really feel comfortable driving this beast! Only small gripe is that the breaks squeal A LOT, which is rather embarassing for a car of this standard. Not helped by the dismissive attitude of the Ferrari people, who say "it's because they're such high-performance brakes" or "it's because you don't brake hard enough" or "it's like that on all V12 Ferraris", instead of "leave it to me and I'll personally make sure it's fixed".
Yes, but that is the cost of having a NEW car. It's only NEW once! Personally, once in my life, I would like to buy a new Ferrari. Pick it up at the factory, if I can work it out. Would it make economic sense? Probably not, but that's the price you pay for the experience. It's unfortunate for me that the new Ferraris I like are 2+2s!
I also own a 612, and can readily agree with everything Tradeur said. The car is AWESOME! I "upgraded" from a 456M, and the difference is amazing. The power is greater, but more impressive is how much better the car handles and how much better it has held up to heavy use. The car is solid and feels so composed in any situation from simple commuting to hard track use. With over 21K miles on it in 12 months, the operating costs are a fraction of those of the 456. There have been literally no big issues to deal with. Only one minor irritation in a loose wire that eluded troubleshooting for a few weeks. Worked whenever it was at a mechanics, then decided to be loose when I was driving. Eventually turned out to be a lug with nut not tightened sufficiently. Otherwise it's just been regular oil changes and the other regular services as proscribed in the manual, with extra fluid changes after two track events. Ride is so comfortable we can easily do repeated 500 mile days with little fatigue. Yet the car eats up the small twisty bits like nothing I've ever driven. It's a joy on a long cross country drive and tight mountain roads. It's at home in the city, if maybe a bit fussy about steep driveways and curb transitions: I've managed to just about totally scrape off one of the little rear spoilers, but hey, they're fiberglass and pop riveted on, so no biggie. It's like they actually planned for them to get damaged and be replaced easily. Brakes may squeal occasionally, but then again, they work! Had it out to the local track twice and still have 75% of the pads left. And that's not a reflection of light braking as a few others in our region might attest. At 2 tons, it stops better than a car its size has a right to, and repeatedly. I've gotten the brakes hot enough after a few really good laps and they do fade slightly, but nowhere near as soon or as much as the 456 did. If I tracked it more I'd consider the ceramic upgrade, but can't really see it given how well the standard brakes have held up. I'm really impressed with how well designed and built this car is, and have a hard time thinking of another car that I would "upgrade" to from this one. It's a great car. Color of mine is Rubino Micalizzato/Black. Dont trust my spelling on that. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Damn that Rubino 612 is stunning - the best 612 that I have seen. And you must have set a Ferrari record for running 21K miles in a year. As Scud would say ... Rock On!!
Very nice pics. I am amazed at all the great cars that are out there now. The 612 is definitely one of them. Best regards, Jerry
I just wanted to post that Rubino Micalizzato with optional Scalgietti rims is the most beautiful for a 612 Scaglietti and then I saw your 612 Scaglietti eric. Excellent
It spells METALLIZZATO Mine is here:http://homepage.mac.com/manuma/PhotoAlbum9.html It's a great car, a lot of engine and a fast transmission On the straights it is as fast as the 430. It is also very comfortable
Hmm, this may sound stupid, but how come your car has 3 pedals while it's F1? Is that just a footrest?
Far right "pedal" is a reflection off the central tunnel plate. It's a common question on this site when interior photos are posted.
I suspect your mastery of Italian is far better than mine. Heck, your English is as good as mine. So maybe we're talking two different colors, or something gets morphed when the name gets put on a US build car: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh, and it's a wee bit faster than a 430 up to around 80 MPH, then proceeds to walk away from the 430. Been there done it at the Ferrari of Seattle track day a couple months ago. Could easily hold the 430 and 575 at bay for first few hundred yards off turn 8, then proceeded to open the gap quite nicely up till I chickened out at around 155-160. Turn one can be a hand full at those speeds and i didn't have as much time in the seat as I'd like to really push it to its limits.
Haha, nice one . By the way, could you PLEASE give us mor epictures? High res if possible? you can email them to me if you wish: dbworld4k AT hotmail DOT com. I'm a huge fan of Rosso Rubino, heck I even dedicated a chunk of my collection of car pics to Rubino colored Ferraris. You could say I like collecting Rubino Ferrari pics
I have seen a 612 in Silverstone grey and I thought that it looks very nice. Black ones are also handsome too. I haven't seen one in Rosso yet. Many people said it looks kinda huge in that color.
A few more pics of the car can be found at http://brokenpoint.net/OurItalianCars/index.htm and http://brokenpoint.net/FloridaTrip/index.htm, interspersed with other nonsense. And here are a few others. Pics at the track are courtesy of Noreduction.com photographers, whose site is apparently no longer active. If there are one or wo that you just have to have higher res copies of, send me email at erichaw at ferrariclub.com and I'll send them.
