    Understood! :)

In that case good luck on the search. Blue is a lovely colour on both cars.
The 550 is a true (very fast) GT and very comfortable on a long trip. The F355 is more something like the ultimate fun car. Great under all conditions.
    Choose wisely. :)

First off, Dont buy any Ferrari unless you know a good Ferrari mechanic that really knows his **** otherwise it dosnt matter which one you buy, you will get burned. The second thing is that the two cars are as different as night and day. The majority of people looking for a Ferrari are in love with a certain model period. What you are doing is comparing a boat to a jetski......just makes no sense other than you want a "FERRARI" for the sake of having a Ferrari. The 550 is a 12 cylinder which happens to be one of the most reliable cars Ferrari makes but there is a sacrifice. The car does not handle like the 355 nor do it have the speed of a 355. The 355 is a real sports/racing car. The 550 is more of a tourning car. I like the 550 and one day I would love to own both for totally different reasons.

Somebody just today mistook my 355 for a Corvette, although Mustang is far more common. People are idiots.

Well, with a race (ist) wit like dr. k'ss, I was pretty sure I knew him from my golfing days. But maybe the sock is on the other hand... Still waiting for his reply.

I have owned my 1997 355 GTS for 9 years and have put 30k on it. I love the car. Period. I have had to replace the Ferrari exhaust with Tubi (insulated) and change cats and silence the confounded by-pass valve. I did not replace any exhaust parts with Ferrari exhaust parts after my first header repair. Neither should you, in my opinion. Other than the exhaust issues, I have done regular maintenance and have had no problems. I enjoy getting under the car and that saves me a lot of money. If you are handy, it is an easy car to work on, and once you understand it, it becomes a very predictable car. Ohhh by the way, I went to buy a 550, planning to keep the 355 as well and drove one in NM. In my opinion, you can have a 550 and a 355 or a 355, but not just a 550. The two cars are not even remotly similar in nature. The 355 is a screaming, turning sports car. The 550 is a lovely, speedy, touring car...I'm just sayin, if you like driving the 355, you may or may not like the 550 and vice versa.

I drove two 550's in the last month, and I was not impressed! That's why I started this thread about the 355--I really LIKE the 355 more than the 550, but hate the thought of doubling my maintenance bills by taking the 355 over the 550! Everything you've said about the 355 is the same things I've heard over and over--replace the pipes with non-factory stuff, and try to do as much as you can yourself! Thanks for more good advice!!

That blue 355 that you love most likely will not last long.

Considering where 355 values are now, depreciation most likely will be minimal. When you buy this 355, if you decide its too much of a "race car" for you, you most likely won't lose much by trading/selling it towards a 575M.

Not impressed by the 550? Wow!
I find the 550 a very impressive car. Very different from my F355, but I can't say that I was not impressed by the power of that beautiful V12. Lovely lovely car.

That's strange. When you started the thread you maintained that you liked both cars equally - hence your dilemma - and now you always liked the 355 more. That's an unusual bit of inconsistency for someone who has been to view several cars and is on the cusp of their Ferrari purchase...

We knew about it a few days ago. I was just trying to draw him out a bit but he was not taking the bait. And post #60 was ripe with referances to his other accounts. Also notice he quickly changed his home town from Pinehurst, NC to Marietta, GA when I pointed out I had a place there.

Lets just say if "Dr E" or "Dr K" show back up we'll ask more direct questions.. :p

    But just for good measure....
